To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, HAROLD L. HOLLOWAY, a citizen of the United States, residing at Barnesville, in the county of Belmont and State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Shoe-Fasteners; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.

This invention relates to fasteners for shoes, and the primary object of the invention is to provide a fastener which embodies the advantages of both the button and lace type of fastening shoes it is quickly and easily fastened, and is yieldable, and fur ther is adjustable so as to permit of the adjustment of the lacing or fastening of the shoe.

A further object of this invention is to provide a shoe fastener as specified which includes a strap forming the body of the fastener which has an S-shaped hook attached to the same, and a second hook attached to one of its free ends, which second hook is adapted for connection with eyes carried by the trap for regulating the length of the strap and also to provide an eye member carried by the end of the strap remote from the hook carrying end which eye member is adapted for connection with said S-shaped hook for fastening a shoe.

With the foregoing and other objects in view this invention consists in such novel features of construction, combination and arrangement of parts as will be hereinafter more fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawings and claimed.

In describing the invention in detail reference will be had to the accompanying drawings wherein like characters designate like and corresponding parts throughout the several views, and in which Figure 1 is a perspective view of a shoe showing the improved fastener applied thereto. Fig. 2 is a fragmentary sectional view through the upper of a shoe showing the improved fastener applied thereto. Fig. 3 is a plan View of the fastener. Fig. 4 is a perspective view of the S-hook used upon the fastener, and Fig. 5 is a detail view of one of the eyes carried by the body strap of the fastener to permit of the adjustment of the length of the same.

. Referring more particularly to the drawings, 1 designates an ordinary shoe which has a plurality of eyelets 2 attached thereto and extending along the marginal edges of the open portions of the shoe upper.

The improved fastener, which is generically indicated by the numeral 3, includes a strap 4 which has its edges rolled upon itself and fit thereto as shown at 5, for substantially two-thirds of the length of the strap. A plurality of eyes 6 are attached to the strap 4 and have upwardly extending portions 7 which are adapted for receiving the hooked end 8 of a hook member 9 which is attached to one of the ends of the strap. The hooked member 9 is preferably constructed of wire and has its ends bent inwardly as clearly shown at 10 in Fig. 8 of the drawings, and the end of the strap laps over the end 10 of the hook and is stitched to the main body of the strap for securely holding the hook 9 attached to the strap 4. A plurality of the eyes 6 are provided for permitting adjustment of the length of the strap when the hook member 8 is hooked in different ones of the eye members. An S-hook generically indicated by the numeral 11 is slidably mounted upon the strap 4 intermediate the eyes 6 and the hook 9 and it is preferably constructed of wire, having a pair of alining portions 12 each of which comprise spaced sides that are positioned upon opposite sides of the strap 4 for slidably connecting the S-hook to the strap. The S-hook 11 extends through one of the eyes 2 which are attached to the shoe upper as clearly shown in Fig. 2 of the drawings while the strap 4 extends through the corresponding eye upon the other loose edge of the shoe upper. The strap body 4 has a substantially rectangularly shaped catch 14 connected thereto adjacent its end remote from the hook 9 which catch member is adapted for seating in the outermost hook portion 15 of the S-hook 11 for connecting the ends of the strap 4 and consequently fastening the shoe.

When attaching the fastener to the shoe, the hook 8 is connected to any one of the eyes 6 to insure the proper length of the strap. In fastening a shoe; the S-hook 11 is pushed through one of the eyelets 2 and then the other end of the strap is inserted through an eye carried by the free side of the shoe upper opposite the side to which the S-hook is connected, and the end 16 of the strap, to which the cap 14 is attached is drawn over across the space between the free edges of the shoe upper, and connected to the outer hook 15 of the S-hook 11 as clearly shown in Fig. 2. To unfasten'the shoe; the catch 14 is moved out of the book 15 of the S-hook 11, and the edge of the shoe or flap is pressed upwardly which will permit the catch to fly loose after which the prehended Within the scope of what is claimed.

What is claimed In a shoe fastener structure, the combination with a shoe body having lacing eyes formed therein, of a body strap, a substantially rectangularly shaped catch carried by said strap, an S-hook slidably carried by said strap and adapted for extension through one of said lacing eyes and connection with said strap, a plurality of eyes carried by said strap, a hook carried by one end of said strap and adapted for connection with anyone of said eyes for adjusting the operative length of said strap.
