' lMPROVE MENT lN EXTENSION-TABLES.

The Schedule referred to in these .laetters Patent and making pact of the same.

To all whom it may concern Be it known that. I, FREDERICK Mnnznn, of Flint, in the county of Genesee and State of Michigan, have invented a new and improved Extension-Table; and I do hereby declare, that the following is a full and exact description thereof, reference being bad to the accompanying drawing which forms a portion of this specification;

Figure l is a side elevation; and

Figure 2,a,bottom view of my improved tablewhen extended to its full length; and

Figure 3, a side view of'the same when in its most compact form.

I first construct two independent four-legged tables, each table having two permanent legs and two legs secured thereto by hinges, and each table having a permanent top, a, and two hinged leaves, m p.

In figs. 1 and 2 of the drawing 0 1) indicate the permanent legs of the left-hand portion of my improved extension-table; and

a d, the jointed legs of the same.

And in said drawing f g indicate the permanent legs of the right-hand portion of said table; and

e h, the hinged legs of the same.

Theinner leaves 1) p of the respective portions of my improved table are of a rectangular shape, and their outer edges are connected to each other by hinges, as shown in figs. 1 and 3. p

The outer leaves an m. of the said portions of my improved table may be of a rectangular shape, or may have their outer edges rounded or curved, as represented in the drawing.

The legs a d e h are respectively joined to the sections ms t 11, which sections are connected by suitable hinges with the frame-work of the table, and are re-' spectively combined with the springs i j k 2, in the manner shown in the drawing.

When the leaves m m are turned upward from a hanging to a horizontal position the legs a h will be instantly swung outward by their respective springs to the positions represented in figs. l and 2, and will consequently securely retain said leaves in the lastnamed .position.

When the respective end portions of the table are drawn outward from each other and their leaves 1) p are elevated to a horizontal position, the legs at e will be instantly swung around by their respective springs to the positions shown in fig. 2, in which positions they will firmly hold the said table-leaves iu the horizontal position represented in fig. 1.

When it is desired ,to put the extended table into its most compact form again the legsc d e h are respectively turned inward to the positions indicated in fig. 2 by a, cl, 0', and ll, which will allow the leaves m m and p p to be lowered to the positions shown in It will be perceived that my improved extensioi1- table can be extended from its most compact to its most extended form, and vice verse, by a single person, and that it can. be changed from one position to the other without the removal or the addition thereto of any auxiliary parts.

Y I claim as my invention- The spring-actuated hinged legs a h and d e, in combination with the frame-work and the leaves an m and p 12 of my improved extension-tables, subtantially as and for the purpose herein set forth. 4
