BRUSH-HOLDER.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented June 15, 1915.
Application filed January 2, 1915. Serial No. 12.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it lmown that I, FRANK C. STIEFEL, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Philadelphia, in the county of Philadelphia and State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Brush-Holders, of which the following is a specification.
The principal object of the present invention is to provide a strong, comparatively inexpensive and efficient brush holder in respect to which brushes may be readily removed for renewal or reversal and by which a brush is firmly held for use.
The invention will be claimed at the end hereof, but will be first described in connection with the accompanying drawings, in which- Figure 1, is an'end view of a brush holder embodying features of the invention. Fig. 2, is a top or plan view of the same, and Fig. 3, is a side view.
' In the drawings there are a pair of duplicate clamp members pivoted together intermediate of their lengths, as at 1. These members provide opposed curved jaws 2 and confronting straight shanks 3. The jaws are shown as reticulated as at 4:,which makes them light without detracting from their requisite strength.
5 are set-screws,'of which two are shown and they penetrate one of the shanks and V bear at their ends upon the other shank.
6, is a handle-socket on one of the clamp members and as shown it is formed on a bar 7 arranged between two of the reticulations or openings.
In use the handle 8 is secured to the socket 6 as by a pin 9 and a brush, indicated by dotted lines diagrammatically in Fig. 1, is placed between the jaws 2 and firmly clamped by means of the set-screws 5. The curved jaws hold the brush firmly and in such a way that its back is protected from splitting or other injury. A new brush may be inserted in the clamp, or an old brush removed and turned around in respect to the handle 8 for use by the simple operation of manipulating the set-screws 5.
What I claim is:
A brush holder comprising the combination of a pair of duplicate clamp members pivoted together intermediate of their lengths and providing opposed curved jaws and confronting straight shanks, a set-screw penetrating one of the shanks and bearing at its end upon the other shank, and a handle-socket on one of the clamp members, substantially as described.
In testimony whereof I have hereunto signed my name.
