' SHIPPING-TAG.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented June 8, 1915.
Application filed April 21, 1914. Serial No. 833,491.
for holding a reversible shipping tag in place on a crate.
Another object of the invention is to provide a novel means for retaining the tag in place in the tag holder to prevent the same from becoming accidentally displaced;
Withthese and other objects in-view the invention consists in the combination and arrangement of parts which will be fully set forth in the following specification and in the accompanying drawing, in which:
Figure 1 is a face view in elevation of a tag and tag holder therefor. Fig; 2 is a longitudinal sectional view taken on the line 22 of Fig. 1. Fig. 3 is a transverse sectional View taken on the line 3-3 of Fig. 1. Fig. 4 is a rear view of the tag.
Referring now to the drawings by characters of reference the numeral l designates as an entirety the rear plate of the tag holder having formed therein a plurality'of screw-receiving apertures 2 which are arranged to receive the securing means which holds the tag holder in place.
A suitable leaf spring 3 is secured to the plate and one end of said spring is riveted, as at at. The end of the spring 3 opposite the riveted end 4.- is turned outwardly, as at 5, to prevent the spring from cutting into the plate when the same is in use.
The front plate of the device is designated generally by the numeral 6 and comprises a rectangular body 7 having an enlarged aperture 8 and a reduced aperture 9.
Intermediate the apertures 8 and 9 is formed the partition wall 10 having a plurality of inwardly projecting lugs 11 formed thereon. These lugs 11 are preferably pointed and are arranged to engage the surface of the card or tag to prevent the same from being displaced. 'The edges of the body portion 7 are bent inwardly, as at 12, to form a spacing member so that the said body portion will be held in spaced relation with the plate 1 hereinbefore described.
Formed in each corner of the plates are provided a plurality of rivet-receiving apertures 13 which are arranged to hold the plate and body portion in proper position so that accidental displacement thereof will be eliminated.
A plurality of apertures 14 are formed intermediate the corners of the plates and are arranged to receive the securing means by which the said plate is held in position on the package upon which it is used.
It will be apparent from the foregoing that in use the tag holder is secured to the plate or package upon which it is desired to use the same and the card slipped in the space between the plate and the body portion. In this position it will be evident that movement of the card will be prevented owing to the fact that the spring 3 exerts pressure at the point 15 on the card and forces the pointed lugs 11 into the surface of the card. After the package has reached its destination the card is removed and when the case or package is to be reshipped the reverse side of the card is to be exposed which will exhibit the senders name and the package may thus be returned without inconveniencing the shipper in any way. While in the foregoing there has been shown and described the preferred embodiment of this invention it is to be understood thal such changes in the combination and arrangement of parts as may fall Within the scope of the claim may be resorted to without departing from the spirit and scope of the invention.
Having thus described the invention what is claimed as new, is
A tag holder comprising a rear plate, a front plate, said front plate being held in spaced relation from the rear plate, a spring carried by the rear plate, the front plate being provided with a pair of spaced apertures, a partition between the apertures, teeth struck from the partition and bent inwardly therefrom, the partition being in In testimony whereof I affix my signature direct alinement with the spring whereby in presence of two witnesses.
