GAS-RANGE ATTACHKEEN'E.
Application filed June 23, 19141.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that ll, FRANK J. Murmur, a citizen of the United States, residing at New York, in the county of New York and State of New York, have invented new and useful Improvements in Gas-Range Attachrnents, of which the following is a specification.
The invention relates to gas range attachnients, and more particularly to the class of shields or protectors for stop cocks.
The primary object of the invention is the provision of a shield or protector wherein the stop cocks on gas ranges or stoves will be concealed so as to avoid access thereto, thereby making it impossible for the accidental opening of the stop cocks by childre or the person using the range or stove, thus avoiding any possibility of the leakage of gas when the burner or burners are not lit.
Another object of the invention is the provision of a shield or protector which permits access to the stop cocks on the opening of the said shield or protector, the latter being of novel construction to enable the same to be mounted on any style or type of gas range or stove without -requiring alterations therein or the employment of extra arts.
' A further oo ect of the invention is the provision of a shield or protector of this character which is extremely simple in construction, reliable and eficient in its purpose, and inexpensive in manufacture.
With these and other objects in view, the invention consists in the construction, combination and arrangement'of parts as will be hereinafter fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawing, and pointed out in the claim hereunto appended.
In the drawing: Figure 1 is a front elevation of a gas range, showing the shield constructed in accordance with the invention applied thereto. Fig 2 is an enlarged sectional view on the line 2-2 of Fig. 1. Fig. 3 is a sectional view on the line 3--3 of Fig. 1. Fig. 4: is an inner face yiew of the shield Similar reference characters indicate corresponding parts throughout the several views :in the drawing. I
Referring to the drawing in detail, 5 designates a gas ran e of ordinarv'construction, having the or 'nary gas supply p1pe Specification of Letters ratent.
'tion the stop cock 7 will be 'venient raising and lowering front and bottom .14 and 15, respectively,

6 which is provided with stop cocks 7 controlling the flow of gas to the burners on top of the range. A portion of this pipe 6 is disposed at the front of the range, and such portion lies horizontally a slight distance below the top of the range, as is usual, and to which is connected the shield or protector hereinafter fully described.
The shield or protector comprises a pair of substantially U-shaped end brackets 8, each carrying on its lowermost limb a clip 9 which is connected thereto by means of bolt members 10, the samebeing passed through the clip and limb of the bracket 8 i for the clamping of the bracket to the horizontal portion of the gas supply pipe 6, the clip and limb being bowed as at 1.1 to conform to the cross sectional shape of the pipe 6, while the other limb of the bracket 8 forms a rest for a swinging cover or to section 12 hingedlv connected to the horizontal stationary top section 13 of the shield or protector, the same being'foed' with a solid vertical front 14: and a solid horizontally disposed bottom ,15, so that when the top section 12 is in lowered posiconcealed and inaccessible until the swinging top section v 12 is raised so that access can be had to the stop cock for the openin thereof or clos ingot the same as is usua he hinges for the swinging section 12 each comprises a tongue 16 secured to or integral with the said top section, while the stationary to section 13 is formed with slots 17 whic receive the tongues 16, the latter being bent into substantially hookshape 'so thatthe tree ends thereof, underlie the said top section 12, and in this manner the latter section is connected with the stationary top section 13 for swinging movement. It is of course to be understood, however, that the particular form of hincan be varied if found desirable.
Mounted on the swinging top section 12 is a hand knob 18 which omits the conthereot, the stationary top section 13,
