My invention has for its object to provide an improved stay and fastener, espewially adapted for use on storm sash. for luihling the same in different open positions 01' in a closed position; and, to this end. generally stated, the inn."

The numerals 1 and 2 indicate. respectively, a window frame and a lower sash, mounted in said frame for vertical sliding movement. The customary storm sash is hinged its upper end to the window Frame 3. for outwn rd swinging; movement.

This bracket 6 is provided with a linger piece 7 by which the storm sash 3 may be moved to and from a. closed position. The free end of the toggle member 5 is 'iivotally secured by a thumb not equipped bolt 8. to a bracket 9. By means of the bolt 8, the toggle member maybe frictionelly clamped to the bracket 9 in diifer- F ent angular adjustments so as'to hold the storm sash 3 open in different positions. To prevent any tendency of the toggle member 5 from slipping with respect to the bracket J, said toggle member and byacket are corrugated at 10, and when clamped together by the bolt 8 the corrugations of the one will fit Within the corrugations of the other.

To look the storm sash 3 closed, the free end of the toggle arm 4 is notched at 11 so as to embrace the bolt 8 when the members of the toggle are folded together. The free end of the toggle member 4} is also laterally offset from the toggle member 5 so that when said toggle members are folded ..to-. gcthei' they will embrace the bi acket 9. By

The combination with a window frame and sasl'i, the latter being hinged to the former, of a frame bracket and a sash bracket. secured, i'espectiveiy, to said frame and sash, a toggle. one member of which is pivotally secured to said sash bracket, and a. clamp pivoiially connecting the other member of said toggle to said frame bracket, in different angular adjustments. to hold said sash open, and for clamping the outer ends of both members of'said toggle to said Frame bracket, for holding said sash closed.

2. The combination with a Window frame secured, respectively, to said frame and sash, a toggle, one member of which ispivotally secured to said sash bracket, and'a clamp pivotally and detachably connecting the other member of said toggle to said frame bracket, in different angular adjustments, to

hold said sash open, and for clamping theouter ends of both members of said toggle a toggle, one member of which is on opposite sides of said frame bracket, for

holding said sash closed.

3. The combination With a Windowframe and sash, the latter being hinged to the former, of a framebracket and a sash bracke secured, respectively, to said frame and sash, pivotal-1y secured to said sash bracket, and a thumbsaid frame bracket, for holding said sash closed, the member of said toggle which is pivoted to said sash bracket having a notch embracing said bolt, when said sash is closed.
