STORM-SASH FASTENER.
inertes.
Application led February 5, 1921.
To all whom t may concern.'
Be it known that I, l/VILLIAM MANDEL, a citizen of the United States, residing at Minneapolis, in the county of Hennepin and State of Minnesota, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Storm- Sash Fasteners, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to storm sash fasteners, and an object is to provide a device of this kind which when attached to the middle of the lower storm sash member, may be employed to hold this sash in either open or closed position as may be desired. is to provide a fastener which is retained on the storm sash when stored so that the fastener can neither become lost nor break the glass in the sash.
The full objects and advantages of m invention will appear in connection with the detailed description thereof, and the novel features embodied in my inventive idea will be particularly pointed out in the claims.
In the accompanying drawings which illustrate the application of my invention in one form,-
Fig. 1 is a vertical sectional view showing the ordinary window sash in position in the window frame, and the storm sash held in open position by my fastener. Fig. 2 is a detail view showing the fastener as it appears when looking downwardly thereon or at right angles to the position shown in Fig. l. ig. 3 is a detail view showing an eye member secured to the lower member of the storm sash. Fig. 4 is a detail plan view showing the lower frame member of the storm sash in horizontal section and showing the fastener in the position which it occupies when the storm sash is in its closed position. Fig. 5 is a detail view showing the lower storm sash member in section and showing the fastener in the position in which it is placed when the sash is to be stored.
Referring to the particular construction shown in the drawings, the numeral 10 designates a small plate which is secured to the middle of the window sill S by screws 12, this plate having an upstanding pin 14 which preferably extends out from the plate at a slight angle to a right angular position so that this pin will be in vertical position whenv the plate is secured to the inclined surface of the sill. The lower member L of the storm sash is provided at its middle with Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented July 4, 1922. serieu No. 442,803.
an eye member 18 16 secured thereto by screws rod 2O extends slidably through the rllhe outer portion of the provided with the eye member.
gagement with this member. This causes the rod 20 to extend at right angles to its then engages the pin 14, as shown in Fig. 4 so that the curved portion 22 in cooperation with the pin 14 holds the sash firmly in position and prevents rattling. The rod 20 is provided with a slight bend 28 between its ends. When the sash is removed for storing, the rod 2() is slid until the bend 28 lies in the eye member 16 and the rod is then turned over so that it occupies the position shown in iig. 5. The rod on account of its resiliency is held in this position, and danger of its pressing on the same is avoided.
The advantages of my invention will be readily understood from the foregoing description. The fastener may be readily attached and a single one serves to hold the sash in either open or closed position, since the fastener is attached at the middle of the sash. My fastener is, therefore, cheaper than fasteners which are attached to the sides of the sash in which case two fasteners are required to hold the sash firmly. The fastener cannot become lost, and when placed in proper position for storage of the sash, it is held so that it cannot press upon the glass with liability of breaking the same.
I claim:
1. A storm Sash fastener comprising a rod having` a curved outer portion, an eye member adapted to be secured to the middle of the lower sash member, said curved portion extending slidably through said eye member, a pin adapted to be secured to the member adapted to be secured to the middle middle of the Window sill, and a looped of the Window silljwand means on the inner portion on the 4inner end of said rod for end` of said rod/for engagement With said engagement With said pin for holding the lengageable member for holding the sash 'in sash in open position, said pin being alsoV open position, said rod having a bend beadapted for engagement by said curved tween its ends which is adapted to engage portion l:for holding :the Sash in closed posaid eye member and hold saidfrodfiirmly sition. upon Said lowerhsaeh member When the sash 2. A storm sash fastener comprising a 1s stored.
`rod, aneye member adapted to be secured In testimony WhGTGO.lllelellltOfailiX my tothe middle of the lower sash member for ysignature. y K, ,Mslidably` receiving said rod, an engageable LLM1MANDEL.
