2 SHEETS-SHEET 2- IRA A. WEAVER, 0F SPRINGFIELD, ILLINOIS, ASSIGNOR T0 RACINE SATTIJEY' COMPANY, OF SPRINGFIELD, ILLINOIS, A CORPORATION OF ILLINOIS.
DETACHABLE PLQWSHARE.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, IRA A. WEAVER, a citizen of the United States, residing at Springfield, in the county of Sangamon and State of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Detachable Plowshares, of which the following is a specification.
This invention has for its object an im proved plow construction in which the mold board portion and share portion are so connected as to be readily disassociated at will and yet capable of maintaining the highest degree of rigidity when assembled, the strains incident to use tending to render the parts mutually supporting.
A further object is to so shape the parts as to facilitate their jointing one to fit the other. 7
In order that the invention may be readily understood by those skilled in this art a pre ferred embodiment of the same is set forth in the accompanying drawings and in the description based thereon. As, however, the invention is capable of embodiment in varied constructional forms the drawing and description are to be taken in an illustrative and not in an unnecessarily limiting sense.
In the drawings: Figure 1' is a side ele vation of those portions of the plow directly involved in the invention; Fig. 2 is a vertical longitudinal section through the mold board and share; Fig. 3 is a perspective view of the share disassociated from the mold board; Fig. 4 is a bottom plan view of the plow; Fig. 5 is a side elevation of the mold board and mountings for the share; and Fig. 6 is a rear view of the share disassociated.
The reference numeral 11 designates the mold board which is rigidly connected with the long landside 12 by means of a sheath of angular form, the plane portion 13 of which is bolted at 1 1 to the long landside 12 while the curved portion 15 is similarly secured at 16 to the rear face of the mold board 11 to which it conforms in curvature. The curved portion 15 of the sheath extendsforwardly of the front edge of the mold board as anapron 17 while the plane portion 13 likewise extends forwardly of the long landside 12 at 18 and has its forward tip undercut at 19.
The share portion comprises the share proper 20 and the short landside 21 rigidly Specification of Letters Patent.

connected together by being formed integral or welded. The rear edge of the share at 22 1s jointed to accurately fit the front edge 23 of the mold board while the rear edge 2% of the short landside joins the front edge 25 of the long landside along a line eXtending at an inclination downwardly and to the rear, the said line of junction between the short and long landside and the line of junction between the share and mold board intersecting the shin of the plow at substantially the same point 26, and the line of junction between the short and long landside lying preferably in the plane of jointure between. the share and mold board and in any case not extending to the rear thereof. By reason of thisrelation between the meeting edges of the share and mold board on the one hand and the short and long landside on the other hand the rear portion of the short landside projects beneath the long landside and downward pressure upon the point of the share tending to rock the same upon the forward joint of the apron as a fulcrum is resisted by the engagement between the rearwardly projecting portion of the short landside and the undercut portion of the long landside, so that even without supplemental securing means a high degree of rigidity is attained and the apron and long landside serve to support the share against stresses incident to use. Moreover the disposition of the connecting line between the short and long landside within or in advance of the plane of jointure between the share and the mold board enables the jointing of the edge 22 upon a grinding wheel or the like without interference from the projecting portion of the short landside, a feature which is of great importance in the finishing of the share.
Upon the inner face of the short landside is a lug 27 adapted to engage beneath the cutaway portion 19 of the portion 18 of the apron and preventing the lifting of the share from the apron point, while upon the rear face of the share is mounted a pair of oppositely facing hooked lugs 2-8 and 29, the former of which is adapted to engage over the end 30 of a brace bar 31 bolted to the mold board at 32 and to the long long landside at 33 and the lug 29 is adapted to enter a slot 34 in the apron 17 and project upon the under face thereof. draw rod 35 is provided at one end with an eye 36 adaptedto engage over the hooked lug 29 and at the other end passes through the brace rod 31 and has a nut 37 threaded thereon.
When the share 20 is placedupon the board and share'in rigid assembled relation.
The parts may be quickly disassembled by releasing the nut 37 whereupon the lug 29 is disengaged from the eye of the draw rod and the share can be detached from the mold board by movement in a forward direction.
I claimi '1. In a plow, the combination with a mold boardand long landside, of a shareand short landside, the line of junction between the short and long landside extending at an inclination downwardly and to the rear, a sheath having fixed relation to the mold board and extending forwardly thereof as an apron, and a lug carried by the share extending through the apron, and a draw member hooked over the lug and having an adjustable connection with a fixed portion of the plow, substantially as described. 7
Copies of this patent may be obtained for 2. Ina plow, the combination with a mold board and long landside, of a share and short landside, the line of junction between the short and long landside extending at an inclination downwardly and to the rear, a sheath having fixed relation to the mold board and extending forwardly thereof as an apron'and provided with ,a slot, a lug on the lower face of the share adapted to -extend through the slot, and a laterally wedg ing draw'connection between the lug and a fixed portion of the plow, substantially. as described. V
o 3. In 'aplow, the combination with a mold board and long landside," of a share and short landside, the line of junction between the shortand long landsideextending at an inclination downwardly and to the rear, a sheath having fixed relation to the mold board and extending forwardly thereof as an apron and provided with a slot, a forwardly facing hooked lug on the lower face of the share adapted to extend through the slot, and a draw rod engaging over the lug and having an adjustable connection with a fixed portion of the plow, substantially as described. v r
In witness whereof I have hereunto signed my name in the presence of two witnesses.
