DRESS-SHIELD PROTECTOR.
Specification of Letters Patent.

To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ANNA E. BmNsroox, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Newark, county of Essex, State of New Jersey, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Dress-Shield Protectors, of which the following is a description in such full, clear, and exact terms as will enable any person skilled in the art to which it pertains to make and use the same.
My invention relates to rubber shields which are commonly sewed in the arm-pits of womens dresses to prevent perspiration from soaking through the dress. The shields themselves do not touch the body but the lining which covers them cannot be washed without washing the entire dress. It is obvious that the portions of the lining between the arm-pits and the shields need washing much more frequently than any other part of the dress and the object of my invention is to provide a means whereby the material which covers the shield may be separated from it and washed.
The preferred embodiment of my invention is illustrated in the accompanying drawing though I do not hold myself limited to the exact form there shown.
In this drawing Figure 1 is a perspective view of the whole device; Fig. 2 is a plan view of the shield and its protector with part of the latter broken away and Fig. 3 is a cross-sectional view on the line 3-3 of Fig. 2.
In carrying out my invention I provide two cloth protectors 10 to be placed under the arm-pits. Attached to these are shoulderstraps 11 which may be pinned as indicated at 12 to any garment suitable for the purpose. The protectors 10 arejoined by straps 13 adapted to fit across the shoulder-blades. To the opposite end of each of the protectors 10 is attached a strap 14:, these straps carrying hooks and eyes or some other suitable means for joining them across the bosom of the wearer.
Referring now to Fig. 2, 15 indicates a cord which is firmly sewed. inside of the protector at the same point at which the various straps are attached and maybe so formed that it is directly stitched to the shoulder- Gopies of this patent may be obtained for strap. This cord is sewed to the protector only at the extremities thereof and hangs loosely inside the protector but near to its folding point. A shield 16, formed of rubber or some other moisture-proof composition shaped like the protector, 2'. 6., one part folded over the other (see Fig. 3), is hung on the cord 15.
From the above description it will be seen that all parts of the device except the shield itself may be washed as frequently as desired as the materials of which it is made are all washable. The shield itself, however, is not washable and the essence of my invention is the construction permitting the shield to be removed while the rest of the device is being washed. The protector and not the shield touches the body and, therefore, it is the protector which necessarily must be kept clean.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United States is 1. The combination with a dress shield protector comprising a covering consisting of side members connected at the top, a shoulder strap connected adjacent its ends to the side members and having its extremities projecting therebetween, and a shield supporting cord between said side members and having its extremities directly connected to the extremities of the shoulder strap. 2. The combination with a pair of dress shield protectors each comprising a covering consisting of side members connected at the top, a shoulder strap connected adjacent its ends to the side members and having its extremities projecting therebetween, a shield supporting cord between said side members and having its extremities directly connected to the extremities of the shoulder strap and means for connecting the fronts and backs of the projectors.
