.Be it known that I, Tnomns H. Lunar, a citizen of the United States, residing in Richmond in the county of Henrico and State of Virginia, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Window- Ventilators, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to the class in which a screen or deflector 18 a justably applied to a window frame in such manner that when the window is open air may be freely admitted but it will be deflected while entering in such manner as to revent direct drafts from passing to the inside of the room.
According to my invention 1 provide a window ventilator of such construction and I so apply it to the window that it may he set or adjusted to a position either on the inside or on the outside of the window frame in such manner that direct drafts are avoided and when set on the outside the entrance of rain is prevented.
In carrying out my invention I connect the ventilator with the sides or jamlis of the window frame by slotted rods which are hinged to the ventilator and are crosk-d and pivotally connected with the window frame by means of pins provided with tightening nuts, the arrangement licing such that when desired the ventilator may to set on either the inside or the outside of the window and may be held at any desired angle relatively thereto.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure l. is a perspective view of the lower portion of a window with my improved ventilator applied thereto. Fig. 2 shows a vertical central section of the same with the ventilator set on the inside of the window. Fig. 3 is a similar view with the ventilator set on the outside thereof. Fig. 4 is a detail view in perspective showing the manner of pivventilators 3i.

A. ventiiator made in accordance with my invention may he applied to windows of usual construction. In the drawings A indicates the side frames or jambs of the window, ii the sill and C the lower sash. The ventilator I.) may he of any suitable construction and made of any suitable material. As shown in Figs. 1, 2 and 3 it comprises a screen or deflector (2 having at opposite ends wings or sides d disposed at right anles to the body or deflector d. The ventilator is of substantially the same width as the window opening, as indicated in Fig. l. but may be moved through the opening when desired.
The ventilator is connected with the win dow frame by slotted rods E arranged in pairs, each pair being pivotally connected with the sides of the ventilator at 5'. and the two rods of each pair are crossed and are pivotally connected with the window frame by pins G' projecting from base plates 9 attached to the jamhs A. The outer ends of the pins G are threaded and receive tightehing nuts g.
Fig. 2 shows the ventilator arranged on. the inside of the Window, the lower sash lacing raised shown. Air entering the window from the outside will be deflected upwardly. as indicated ray the arrows. and the ventilator may he iirmly held in p sh ti n by the. rods which are inched hy the nuts when the proper adjustment has beaten )e given.
