This invention is directed to an improvement in ventilators designed particularly for use with automobiles of the closed type, with the ventilator designed to fit above the movable glass panels of the doors and the like to ati'ord ventilation while at the same time excluding the elements.
The main object. of the present invention is the provision of a ventilator which may be arranged to cooperate with the usual glass panel guides in the door and other parts and which is adjustable to control the admission of air while at the same time so interfit-ting with the glass and door frame as to exclude the possibility of the entrance of the elements while the ventilator isin use.
A. further object of the invention is the provision of means whereby the ventilator may be readily and quickly applied to or removed from the door structure.

The improved ventilator comprises a metallic plate 1 of appropriate length and width formed with openings 2 of the louvre type. In line with the outer surfacethe plate 1 is formed with a depending flange 3 which is of the full length of the plate.

Intermediate the plates 1 and 4 is a screen cloth section 6 serving to prevent the entrance of dust or other fine particles through preferably provided with a handle member 7 bywhich the plate may be adjusted and such plate is formed with openings 8 which may be aligned with the openings 2, moved wholly out of alignment with such openings, or arranged at any intermediate position, thus obviously controlling the degree of ventilat-ion. j
The ends of the plate 1 are provided with extensible sections 9 which are of plate-like form and slidably connected to the plate 1 The plate 4 is.
by bolt and slot connections 10. An upstanding lug 11 is provided on each extensible section 9 and a corresponding lug 12 on the plate 1 in line with the lug 11. An adjusting bolt 13 is connected to each lug 11 and threaded through the lug 12, a lock nut 14 being arranged to;- maintainthe adjustment. Obviously the sections 9 may be adjusted longitudinally with respect to the section 1 to any desired degree within the limits of the adjusting bolts 13.
In automobile structure the door frames as well as the body frame where sliding window panes are utilized are provided with opposing guides 15 in which the window pane 16 is adjusted, usually by means of a handle 17 In applying the improved ventilator, such ventilator is positioned in the upper portion of the opening closed by the sliding pane and the sections 9 are adjusted so that their tree edges fit in the grooves in the guides 15. The window is then elevated until the upper edge bears against the lower edge of the plate 1,'in which position it will be noted that the flange 3 covers the juncture between the window and ventilator plate so as to prevent the entrance of the elements through such opening.
It is, of course, apparent that the degree of ventilation may becontrolled b 1 movement of the plate at and thus a free at mission of air ma be provided for notwithstanding the fact tiat the windows are closed. When not required for use, the ventilator may be readily removed and stored, as its comparatively fiat condition permits it to be carried as a part of the car equipment without occupying any unnecessary space.
\Vhat I claim as new is: A ventilator comprising a fixed plate formed with ventilating openings, a controlling plate formed withropenings corresponding to the ventilating openings, said icontrollingplate being movable to control the registry of the respective openings in the plates, a screen interposed'between the two plates, an adjustable extension plate at. each opposite end of the fixed plate, a lug extending from each extension late, a threaded lug at each opposite end 0t the fixed late in line with the lugs on the extension p ates, and an adjusting screw and lug nut engaging each lug at the ends of the fixed plate, and the companion lug on the extension plate.
