COMBIEED SCREEN AND' SHUTTERS Filed April 7, 1930 2 Sheets-Sheet 2 ATTOR NEV Patented Aug. 16, 1932 oFFic COMBINED SCREEN AND SHUTTERS Application filed April 7,
This invention relates to a combined screen and shutter, the general object of the invention being to provide a frame formed of two sections slidably connected together so that the frame can be adjusted in a window between a part of the window frame and the sash, with a screen covering one face of the frame and pivoted shutters at the other face so that the shutters can be moved to a position entirely closing the opening in the window or partly closing the same or to a fully open position. a
This invention also. consists in certain other features of construction and in the 1 combination and arrangement of the several parts, to be hereinafter fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawings and specifically pointed out in the appended claim.
In describing the invention in detail, reference will be had to the accompanying drawings wherein like characters denote like or corresponding parts throughout the several views, and in which Figure 1 is a front view of the device.
Figure 2 is a section on line 2--2 of Figure 1.
Figure 3 is a-rear view. Figure 4 is a section on .line 44 of Figure 2.
As shown in these views, the frame A is composed of the lower section 1 and the upper section 2 which are slidably connected together so that the frame can be placed in a Window between part of the frame thereof and a sash, with the sash in fully open position or in partly'open position. The top and bottom ends of the frame are formed with the flanges 3 for making a tight fit between the sash and sill of the window,-these flanges being bent to bring the same flush at thefront of the frames, and the inner face of the frame is covered with wire gauze or the like, as shown at 4. It will, of course, be understood that this gauze is attached to each section so that it will not interfere with the sliding movement of one section on the other. Shutters 5 are pivoted to ears 4, these being at right angles to the frame, ieach shutter being formed of two sections which are slide 1930. Serial No. 442,413.
ably connected together and each section has a right-angle ear 6 at each end thereof and adjacent one edge thereof through which the pivot pin 7 passes. Thus the shutters are supported for swinging movement from the frame so that they can be moved from a fully closed position to a partly open position or a fully open position.
A bar 8 is pivotally connected with'the pivoted edges of the shutters, as shown at 9, this bar being arranged at the lower end ofthe frame and a crank shaft 10 is rotatably arranged in the lower part of the frame and has an arm 11 thereon which is connected with the bar so that rocking movement of the shaft will cause a sliding movement of the bar, thus enabling the shutters to be adjusted by the turning movement of the shaft. The handle part of the shaft is arranged at the inner part of the device so that it can be operated by a person in the room.
From the foregoing it will be seen that I have provided a combined window screen and shutter which can be easily and quickly placed in a window to fill the opening formed by the raising or partly raising of a sash, the device acting as an ordinary screen and as means for controlling the inlet of air through the opening. The shutters can also be used to prevent rain from entering the opening as well as the rays of the sun.
It is thought from the foregoing description that the advantages and novel features of the invention will be readily apparent.
It is to'be understood thatchanges may be made in the construction and in the combination and arrangement of the several parts,
provided that such changes fall within the scope of the appended claim.
What I claim is lhe combination of wire mesh covered slidably interfitted frames, flanges formed on the top and bottom ends of said frames and angularly disposed to'bring the same flush with the fronts of'the frames, ears on the frames at right-angles thereto, sets of louvers ivotally supported on the ears and extensibly interfitted with each other and-arranged in spaced side by side relation, a bar arranged between the louversand the'wire mesh portions of the frames and linked to the ivotal connections of the louvers, and a cra handle journaled transversely in one of the frames and operatively connected with the bar to reciprocate the same for the opening and closing of the louvers.
In testimony whereof I aflix my signature.
GABOR RACY.
