T0 all whom t may concern Be it known that I, FRANK ALDRICH, a citizen of the United States of America, residinof at Detroit, in the county of Wayne and tate of Michigan, have Vvinvented certain new and useful Improvements in Garbage-Containers, of which the following is a specification, reference being had therein vto the accompanying drawings.
In storing garbage from houses for ready collection, it is advisable that it be so disposed that excess moisture be drained o" and that it does not freeze in cold weather or heat and therefore ferment or become offensive lin warm weather. It should be inaccessible to animals, and the receptacle containing it should be built to stand rough usage by the collector.
This invention relates to receptacles for garbage and the like whereby means are provided for retaining refuse in such manner that it does not pollute surrounding objects and is not offensive, and whereby moisture is drained away from the garbage and disinfectant readily applied if desired to sterilize it. l f
Another feature is an arrangement, whereby the receptacle,` which` isconstructed to stand rough handling, is protected from either hot or cold weather, and cannot be molested by animals.
The invention Consists in the matters hereinafter setV forth and more particularly Y pointed out in the appended claim.
In the drawings, Figure 1 is a view in vertical section of an assembled device em-A bodying features of the invention; andFig.
2 is a view in perspective of a vessel for con-1 V taining garbage, removed from the outer casing. g
As shown in the drawings, an upright,
cylindrical casing 1 adapted to be embedded in the earthrfor the greater portion of its length, has an inner flange or shoulder 2 near lits upper end, and a cover 8 with depending marginal flange 4 telescoping over the upper end of the casing, whichextends ashort distance above-the ground. A layer 5 of sand or like easily drained material is placed in the lower open end of the'casing. Preferably the casing is a drain tile or sewer pipe section, the flanged end being placed uppermost.
A vessel having a body 6 preferably of non-corrodible metal is suspended by an Specification of Letters Patent. Patented llIal. 9, 1915.' Application filed December 15, 1911. VKSerial No. 666,052.l I 1 Y .shoulder 2 of the casing. Y The flange is reinforced bya metal ring 8 or the like. A handle 9 is attached to the vessel by bailears 10 so as to be folded down out of the way of the cover 8. The bottom plate 11 of the vessel is provided with drain perforations 12. VTo keep the vessel fromV being dented when it is tilted over the side or end-.board of a garbage wagon or the like, a .frame 14 has out-turned ends 15 secured against thel MICHIGAN, assieivoie or oIvEKV-IIALF To 'JOHN ivL` NI'COL,
Aupper marginal flange 7 -thereon `on the,v
under-side of the flange 7 Vand extends down the sides and across the bottomof the vessel in a plane at substantially right angles to theV plane of the bail-ears, so that it forms a shoe on which the pail may rest when it is being emptied over the edge of a wagonbox or the like. A tray 16 filled with disinfectant -indicated at 17and provided with perforations 18 for drainage may be placed below the vessel if desired. A l
As a result of the general arrangement. shown, a garbage container is had that effectually prevents the escape offodors and cannot be readily molested by passing ani-V contents does not become frozen in winter or fermented bv summer heat, and any surplus moisture drains oli', so that the garbage" is easily collected and disposed of.
Obviously, Changes in the details of con-V .Y
struction may be made without departing from the spirit of the invention and I do not limit myself to anyV particular forni or arrangementof parts.
In a garbage receptacle, means forming an annular support,a thin sheet metal vessel, an external marginal flange around the mouth thereof,'a. rigid frame Ahaving a middle portion extendingdiametrically acrossv the under sideof the vessel bottom plate to which it is connected adiacent the wall ofanged ring in a plane at substantially right I angles to the Plane of the frame, the out- 80 Y mals.
