To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, LEWIS S. WIXSON, a citizen of the United States, residing at Rochester, in the county of Monroe and State of New York, have invented new and useful Improvements in Scaffold-Brackets, of which the following is a specification.

This invention relates to improvements in brackets, and the primary object of the invention is the provision of a portable folding bracket which is designed especially for supporting scaffolds, shelves or the like.

The primary object of the invention is the provision of a device of this character which may be constructed at a small cost, which is efiicient, which can be readily put up in position for use, and easily removed when not in used, and which, as above stated, is portable so that the same may be readily transported.

With the above, andother objects in view which will appear as the nature of the description progresses, the invention resides in the novel construction and arrangement of parts hereinafter fully described and claimed.

In the accompanying drawings-Figure l is a side elevation of the device showing the same in its open or supporting position. Fig. 2 is a similar view, the parts being shown in section, of the device when folded. Fig. 3 is a top plan view of the device in the position illustrated in Fig. 1. In the drawings, A designates the improved bracket. This bracket-comprises essentially a top support 1, a brace 2 and a leg member 3 which connects both the brace and the support. The support 1 comprises a pair of longitudinally extending angle irons, the same having their outer ends spaced apart in any desired or preferred manner. The supports have their inner ends provided with a plurality of bolt openings adapted for the reception of the bolts 5, through the medium of which the wedge member 4 is connected between the angle irons and which also serve to space the said irons away from each other at this end of the support. The brace member 2 also provides a pair of angle irons, the webs of which being cut away adjacent one of their ends, so that their faces may extend between the angle irons 1. and may be pivotthe numeral 8.

The numeral 9 designates a head which is integrally formed upon the webs 4, the said head projecting between the angle irons 1 and having its outer face beveled or inclined as at 10 so as to snugly engage the overlying portion 8 of the leg 3. One side of the leg is also preferably formed with an off-set 11, the same adapted to engage with the horizontal face of the angle iron 1 upon one side of the support.

The numeral 12 designates the hook for the device. This hook is adapted to contact with a suitable support, such as a beam 13. The hook has what may be termed its body portion or extension 14 formed with an elongate slot 15, while the opposite angular portion 16 of the said hook is formed with a biting edge having its inner extremity pointed inwardly as at 17. The elongated opening 15 of the hook is adapted to be engaged by the webs 4, and when the said hook is positioned upon the support, the wedge 4 is forced downwardly therein by pressure being exerted upon the support 1 or the application of blows to the head 9 of the wedge. l/Vhen it is desired to remove the device it is merely necessary to force the bracket upwardly so that the slot of the hook becomes disengaged from the wedge.

From the above description, taken in connection with the accompanying drawings, it will be noted that the greater the pressure upon the support the firmer the bracket is sustained upon the support, it being noted that the downward pressure of the wedge serves to force the hook more tightly into engagement with the support.
