Description

l "li itriii lterrwr am GEORGE W. LANGDON, QF GREENE, YORK, ASSIGNOR TO. 'HIMSELF ANLDA LEWIS SENEARE, OF SAME PLAGE.
Letters Patent No. 112,931, dated March 21, 1871.
IMPROVEMENT IN STOV-PIPE SHELVES AND CLOTHES-DRIERS.
The Schedule referred to in these Letters Patent and making of the same.
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it knownthat I, GEORGE W. LANGDON, of Greene, in the county of Ohenango and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Stove-pipe 'Shelves and Rack for Drying Clothes; and I do herebydeclare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawing and to -the letters of reference marked thereon .which form a part of this specification.
, The nature of my invention consists in the construction and arrangement of a stove-pipe shelf, as will be hereinafter more fully set forth# In order `to enable others skilled` -in the art to which my invention appertains to make and use the same, I will now proceed to describe its construction and operation, referring to the annexed drawing, in which- Figure l is a vertical section, and
Figure 2, a plan View,
- A represents a stove-pipe or stove-pipe drumfenstructedin any ofthe known and usual ways.
4At a suitable pointon said pipe or drum, and enf' circlingr the same, are attached two collars, a and a', placed a suitable distance apart, as shown.
The upper collar a is beveled or otherwise cutout so as to form a circular groove around the pipe or drum at the lower end of said collar, and the lower collar a is also beveled or cut o ut so as to form a sim'- ilar groove at its upper end, the groove on the. upper collar being, however,'made deeper than that of the lower collar, for a purpose that will be presently described.
lB represents the shelf, which may be cast in as many sections as may be desired, each section forming a segment, as shown in iig. 2.
The inner rim ofthe shelf B is provided with |pro.- jectious or lugs b b, extending both above and below said rim, there being two or more of such projections on each section of the shelf; or there may be two extending above and three extending below the rim.'
These projections are inserted in the grooves formed bythe collars'a a', by lirst placing the upper projecthe shelves or arms.
Itions under the upper collar, as far up as possible.
The lower projections will then clear the lower` collar The collars a a may, as-shown in the drawing, form the upper edges of one collar, C, and be turned over so as to form the necessary grooves. v
g represents a damper, which has a circular opening at its center, which opening may be about onethird the diameter of the damper. f
Over this opening is secured'a circular plate,.the
circumference of which is greater than that of the opening, but less than that of the damper. Thus, in turning the damper square on, theproducts of com.- bustion are only retarded, but not prevented from as cending through the opening. The object of this arrangement is to radiate the heat, when desired, below Having thus fully described my invention,
What I- claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
1. A stove-pipe, or section thereof, provided with collars a a', when used in combination with a support for clothing, said support arranged to operate in connection with the collar, substantially as set forth.
2. 'lhe damper g, arranged in combination with the clothes-support, substantially as and for the purpose described.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my own I aiiixmy signature in 'presence of two witnesses.
GEORGE" W. LANGDO'N.-
Witnesses:
ROBERT L. BROUGHAM, EDGAR DIMOBSE.
