HENRY B. MACE, OF ERDENHEIM, PENNSYLVANIA.
TGOL-HOLDER.
Application filed March 18, 1914.
To util Iao/lem it muy conce/rn lie it known that l, Hnnirr B. Mixen, a citizen olf the United States of America, residing at Erdenheim l). O., in the county oit lliontgomery and State of Pennsylvania, have invented new and useful improvements in Toolflflolders, of which the following is a specification.
rlChe invention relates to tool holders, one of the main objects being to provide a holder, having means associated therewith to make possible the ready insertion and positive maintenance et a tool, in a fixed position therein, so that the same may be readily adapted i'or use.
Another obj ect of the device is to provide a tool holder, having a tool receiving recess in one end thereof, and a pin passing through said recess to engage a hooked terminal ot said tool.
still .further object is to provide a tool holder, having a latch pivotally mounted therein to cooperate with a side ot the tool, to cause the latter to be held in a locked position Within said holder.
Still further objects will appear as the invention is more 'thoroughly disclosed in the Yliolloiving description when taken in conjunction with the accompanying drawing.
Figure 1 is a perspective vieiv of a device comprising the preferred embodiment of the invention and illustrating a tool of the screwdriver type attached thereto. Fig. 2 is a diametrical horizontal sectional vieiv taken through a portion of the holder in the position shown in Fig. 1 and also showing the method ot attaching a tool thereto, the initial position ot the tool being shown in dotted lines and the normal operation position in full lines; Fig. 8 is a transverse sectional vienv through the device; and Fig. 4 is a detail vievv of the tool locking means.
Referring more particularly to the accompanying drawing, a tool holder A is provided with the usual handle portion 1 and at its opposite end with the tool engagingportion 1, the latter portion being provided with a recess or slot 9, through which passes a pin 3 extending vertically through said slot and being tixedly mounted Within said holder A.
A tool 4l is adapted to be fastened in a hired position in relation to the holder by passing a hooked terminal 5 around the pin 3, as shown in dotted lines in Fig. 2, and then swinging the same about the axis specification of Letters raient.

Serial No. 82.52621.
`r'ormedby said pin, until it comes into contact with the Wall 7 forming the innermost extremity of said slot.
A latch lever 8 lis pivotally mounted in a recess 10, having its longitudinal axis lying parallel with the pin 3, and extending inwardly from the terminal 1 of the handle A. Formed integral with said latch lever is a head 11, ofi'set laterally from the body of the lever, so as to provide a relatively large frictional bearing surface 12, said bearing surface lying in a depression 13 in one side ot the handle 1 and adjacent to its end 1. Said depression forms a part of the recess 10, and the lever in this position engages the sides of the recess 13 to effectively h old the former in a locked position.
It Will be obvious upon reference to the drawing, that a side ot" the lever 8 engages the tool 4, holding the same in firm rictional contact against the innermost Wall 7 of the slot 2, and thereby holding the tool 'locked against any accidental displacement at the same time allowing said tool to be quickly and readily adapted for use. The latch lever 8 is further provided on its head 11 with a knurled surface 14, to permit a ready shifting of the same to an unlocked position upon the exertion of pressure thereupon by the thumb of the operator.
lVhile the description discloses the preferred form of the invention, it vvill be understood that from time to time such structural changes may be made in the device as practice may disclose, but such changes Will be limited to the scope of the claims hereunto appended.
1. The'combination with a tool having a hooked end, of a holder for said tool, said holder having one of its ends provided With a longitudinally extending slot that opens to one of its sides and which has its rear Wall provided with a depression, a pin passing transversely through the said depression and adapted to receive the hooked end of the tool to permit the shank of the tool resting against the rear Wall of the depression, a latch member pivotally secured to Jthe end of the holder and adapted to be swung transverse of the depression to engage With the tool to force the same into frictional contact with the rear Wall of the depression.
2. The combination With a tool having a hooked end, of a holder for said tool, said holder having a longitudinally arranged slot, a pin passing transversely through the slot to receive the hooked end' of the tool, to permit the shank of the tool resting v against the rear Wall of the slot, said holder having its end provided with a recess arranged at a'right angleV to the slot passing through the said slot, a latch arranged Within the recess and having one of its ends pivotally secured therein, said latch having its opposite end provided with a lateral Copiesof this patent may be obtained for ve cents each, by addressing the Commissioner of Patents,
