To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, EARLE'S. .SGHUYLER,

a citizen of theUnited' States, residing. at

Morenci, in the county of Greenlee and State of Arizona, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Cigarette-Paper pers and residesin the provision of a device. which may be readily attachedto tobacco cans and will act as a lid therefor as well as l to hold the papers so that they maybe re.- moved one at a time.

' Anv important object of my invention is to'p'rovide a device of the character described in which aplurality of cigarette papers are arranged so that they may be removed one at a time and insuch a way that the act of withdrawing or removingone paper positions a portionof another paper. so that it maybe readily grasped and withdrawn for use.

Another important object-of my invention. is to provide a holder which is constructed integral with the lid for a tobacco receptacle and adapted to fit within the-lid in such a way that the receptacle may be closed in the usual manner and when the lid is opened the cigarette papers positioned within the holder may be readily removed.

Another important objectof my invention is to providega simple and inexpensive device such as above described which is reliable and efficient in operation, not. liable to accidental derangement and cheap to manufacture. 1

The above and additional objects are accomplished by such means :as are illustrated in the accompanying drawings,.described in the following specification and then more particularly pointed out in the claims which are appended hereto and form a part of this application.

With reference to the drawings. wherein I have illustrated the preferred embodiment of my invention as it is reduced to practice, and throughout the several views of which similar reference numerals designate corresponding parts: Figure 1 is a top plan view of a tobacco receptacle showing my improved device attached thereto, Fig. 2 is a fragmentary vertical sectional view taken through. the lid and receptacle showing my holding-attachment therein, and Fig. 3: is a plan view of the blank of which my attachment and the lid for the receptacle is fformed.

. My improved device is formed integral with the lid and consists of a singlejblank of metal comprisin the lid and holder.

Aplurality of cigarette papers 13 are ar- .,ranged within the compartment 12 after a manner which-will be later more fully de-' scribed- As a means spaced parallel relation to the body portion for holding the plate 5'in 30f the lid 2 and in such a way that theccmpartment, 12 is formed,.I provide a flange 14 formed centrally of the outer longitudinal edge of theplate 5 and extending at right angles thereto. A locking tongue 15 is formed on the end of the flange l4 and is adapted ,to extend through an opening 16 in the body portion 3 of the lid 2 and to be bent over to lie in engagement with the outer face of the body portion 3 as clearly shown in Fig. 2. It will thus be seen that through the medium of the flange 14: and tongue 15 the plate 5 is held in such a way that the compartment 12 is formed and the l W H W plate securely held against accidental de rangement.

The cigarette papers 13 are each creased longitudinally centrally of their ends and disposed with one side of each paper'between the fold of the adjacent paper. The outermost of the papers is provided with its outermost edge extended outwardly through a the slot 6. It will be readily seen that when the extendedportion of the outermost paper 1'3 is grasped and removed the next paper will be pulled through the slot by reason of the fact that its outer edge is disposed between the folds of the first mentionedpaper. It will thus be seen that onev aper' at a time is removed if arranged to t e removed from the holder-or compartment 12.

It will be readily seen with reference to the. foregoing description and accompany-v mg drawings that I have provided a simple and inexpensive device which amounts to a decided improvement in receptacles for tobacco inasmuch as the cigarette papers that are usually sold or given away with tobacco are positioned in such a way that they are readily accessible. The tongue 15 may be bent parallel with the flan el l and the plate 5 swung out of the lid'2 for the purpose of refilling the compartment 12 with papers 13.

' In reduction to practice, I have found that the form of my invention, illustrated in the drawings and referred to in the above description, as the preferred embodiment, is

- the most efficient and practical; yet realizing that the conditionscon'current with the adrption of my devicewill necessarily vary, I desire to emphasize the fact that various minor changes in details l of construction, proportion and arrangementof parts may be resorted to, when required, without sacrificing any of the advantages of my inventicn, as defined in the appended claims. What is claimed is 1. The combination with the lid of a 'receptacle of a plate having a longitudinal slot therein and disposed in parallel spaced relation totheouter wall of the lid to provide a compartment, a plurality of cigarette papers mounted within the, compartment and adaptedto be removed one at a time therefrom through the slot in said plate, and means for holding and locking said plate in spaced parallel relation to the body or outer wall ofsaidlid.

4. In a device of the character described the combination with a receptacle having a plate having a longitudinal slot therein mounted within said lid in spaced relation to the body portion thereof and forming a compartment, a plurality of strips, formed integral with the flange of said lid and said plate, said strips being disposed at right angles to said plate and bent to form ears, said ears being hingedly connected with the receptacle, said compartment adapted to .lid, 'said' lid having a peripheral flange, a
