BABY DRESSER. AND WARDEOBE.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Feb. 2, 12115.
Application flied March 26, 1914. SerialNo. 827,382.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, CORA Tnx'ron Wear, a citizen of the United States, residing at Sandusky, in the county of Erie and State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Baby Dressers and the following is a specification.
My invention relates to baby dressers and wardrobes, my more particular purpose being to provide a device of this character 1n which the various parts are arranged with reference to convenience and accessibility.
My invention further contemplates the location of a mattress upon the top of the wardrobe and dresser, in such position that it is readily accessible, the mattress being sunken into the Woodwork and so arranged as to be readily grasped by hand and removed from its mountings.
My invention further relates to the construction of the mattress with a view to its use in the relation just stated.
My invention further relates to various improvements in mechanism of th1s general -character, for the purpose of improving the efliciency thereof.
Reference is made to the accompanying drawings forming a part of this specification, and in which like letters indicate hke arts.
p Figure 1 is a perspective of the baby dresser and wardrobe complete. Fig. 2 is a detail view, showing in perspective the construction of the mattress. Fig. 3 is a. section, on the line 3-3 of Fig. 1, looking in the direction of the arrow. Fig. section, on the line 44 of Fig. 1, looking in the direction of the arrow. Fig. 5 is a vertical section, on the line 5-5 of Fig. 4, looking in the direction of the arrow. Fig. 6 is a detail view, showing in cross section one end of the mattress. Fig. 7 is a perspective showing one of the metallic clips orming a part of the mattress.
A cabinet 8, having generally the form of a box, is provided with corner posts 9, which extend below it and serve the purpose of supporting legs. Each corner post rests upon a caster Wheel 10. A towel bar is shown at 11 and is supported by brackets 12, these parts constituting a simple form of towel rack.
Mounted upon the top of-the cabinet and extending the'full width thereof is a railing 4is a 13, and at the ends of this railing are two shorter railings 13. These railings serve as guards, and also present anornamental appearance.
A number of drawers 14 are slidably fitted into the cabinet and arranged upon opposite sides thereof in vertical rows. Between the two vertical rows of drawers is a door 15. This door and each drawer is provided with a knob 16 whereby it may be opened and closed. The door 15 is provided with a panel 17. Three drawers 18, 19, 20, of less depth than the drawers 14, are located in the upper portion of the cabinet. The top of the cabinet is shown at 21, and is provided with a sink 22 and with a pair of hand holes 23 located at the ends of this sink, a portion of each hole being within the sunken space and a portion within the raised portion.
The mattress is shown in Fig. 2 and consists of a board 24, and a cushion 25 secured thereto. For this purpose the board 24 is at its ends provided with rounded portions 26 separated from the body of the board by neck portions 27, as indicated in Fig. 2. Two clips 28 made of sheet metal and provided with edge portions 29 curled substantially into cylindrical form, are used at the ends of the board 24. The cushion 25 is flat, and 30 of durable cloth. These webs may be bent around adjacent rounded portions 26 of the board 24, and held in place by the clips 28. The clips being thus applied, the mattress as a whole is complete, and may be at its ends is provided with webs placed in the sink 22 so as to fill the latter, a
the cushion extending slightly above the top 21, as may be understood from Fig. 4.
Located within the cabinet 8, adjacent the door, is a floor 31, and below this floor is a slide 32, supported upon rests 33. The slide may be drawn out for some little distance, and constitutes an extension shelf. For this purpose it may be used in connection with the floor 31.
he operation of my device may be readily understood from the foregoing description. Articles are placed in the cabinet and removed therefrom at the will of the operator. The door 15 being open, the slide 32, or extension shelf, may be drawn out. he operator in order to remove the mattress extends her fingers through the hand holes 23 and lifts the mattress from its ,inountings; When the mattress is in positron, it gives the devlce an ornamental appearance.
I- do not limit myself to any particular material to be used in the construction of m device.
either do I limit myself to any particular use to which the same'may be applied, as variations may be -made in the construction and action of the parts,
parting from the spirit of my invention.
Having thus described my invention,
what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is as follows:
1. A device of the character described comprising a cabinet having a top and a pair of hand holes extending through said top, said top being provided with a sink reaching from one of said hand holes to the other, and a mattress detachably fitted into without denuance said sink and extending into said hand holes.
the combination with a cabinet top having a reduced area sunken to form a mattress receiving space and rovided with a pair of-hand holes extending through said top, a portion of each hole extending within the boundaryof the sunken space and a portion extending beyond such boundary, of amattress having a rigid hand hold at each end lying over said hand holes.
In testimon whereof I have signed my name to this s ecification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
