Description

C. B. WOOLF.
GARMENT FASTBNER.
APPLIOATION rILm. MAR.13, 1914.
1,126,610. Patented Jan.26,1915.
CHARLES E. WOOLF, OF WYNNEVVOOD, PENNSYLVANIA,
GABMENT-FASTENER.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Jan. 26, 1915.
Application filed March 13, 1914. Serial No. 824,448.
To all 1072 one it may concern Be it known that 1, CHARLES E. VVooLr, a citizen of the United States, residing at VVynnewood, in the county of Montgomery and State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Garment-Fasteners, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to improvements in garment fasteners and one object of the invention is the provision of a fastener which may be constructed of wire or sheet metal and which can be easily fastened or released, but which can not possibly become accidentally unfastened.
Another object of my invention is the provision of a garment fastener which can be easily applied to the flaps or meeting members of a garment and be of ornamental appearance, which can be instantly fastened and released, which will not clisfigure the appearance of the garment but give a smooth and neat appearance to the fastened edges, and which will be capable of production at the right price to make the fastener practical and etlicient.
\Vith these objects in view, my invention consists of a garment fastener embodying novel features of construction and combina tion of parts, substantially as disclosed herein.
Figure 1 is a front elevation of the two portions of a garment equipped with my fastener, showing the fasteners in released or unlocked position. Fig. 2 is a similar view, the fastener being locked or fastened and securing the two portions of the garment together. Fig. 3 is a perspective view of the two similar members which compose the fastener. Fig. 4 is a side view of one of the parts of one of the members. Fig. 5 is a sectional view on the line 55 of Fig. 3.
The fastener can be made of wire or sheet metal and may be used as a garment or other fastener, as circumstances require, and for the purpose of illustration is shown as constructed of sheet metal and applied to a garment, and in the drawings the letter A indicates the two portions of the garment to be fastened, the fastener consisting of the pair of plates 13, provided with eyes C, for
connecting the fastener to the parts of the garment, and secured together in any manner to make a unitary structure, and said plates are bulged at D, to provide the pockets or seats E, adapted to receive the hooks F at the outer ends of said plates, these hooks being secured in proper relation by means of a rivet or like fastening G From this construction it will be noted that the two members comprising the fastening are of similar construction and are secured to the edges of the garment by lacing H, or the like, and are disposed in opposite relation, providing the oppositely disposed hooks F and the similarly disposed pockets E, whereby the hooks by a vertical movement are engaged in the pockets, the hook of one member locking in the pocket of the other or companion member and making a perfect locking connection between said members, retaining the edges of the garment in proper relation under all circumstances and allowing the instant engagement or release of the two members forming the fastening.
It is evident that I provide a fastening which can be constructed of wire, sheet metal or other suitable material, which can be readily applied, and will be of ornamental and attractive appearance, which can be instantly fastened or unfastened by a natural vertical or horizontal movement, which will hold the parts in proper relation and cannot possibly work loose or become detached accidentally, and which all things considered will be inexpensive and practical.
I claim:
The garment fastener herein described consisting of the pair of similar members, each having an attaching portion at one end, an intermediate pocket extending transversely from one edge thereof, and a hook member at the other end for interlocking with the pocket of the companion member.
In testimony whereof I atlix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
CHARLES E. WOOLF.
