. To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, BERTHOLD WEINTRAUB,

a subject of the King ofHungary, residing at Bridgeport, in the county of Fairfield and State of Connecticut, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Boot and Shoe Heels, of which the following is a specification.

This invention relates to certain new and useful improvements in boot and shoe heels.

An object of the present invention is to provide a boot or shoe heel in which the lower section or lift is detachably secured to the major portion of the heel by suitable fastening means carried byv the removable" heel section.

A further object of the invention is to provide a removable heel section for boots or shoes which may be made of rubber. or other cushioning material and in which the means for securing the heel sections together is carriedby the removable section.

A still further object of the invention is to provide a cushioned heel for boots or shoes in whichnails or bolts of a particular configuration are secured to the main heel section and adapted to have their heads re ceived' in looking metallic members carried by the removable heel section.

With the above general objects in view and others that will appear as the nature of the invention is better understood, the same consists in the novel combination, construe tion and arrangement of parts to be hereinafter more fully described and then claimed. In the accompanying drawing which shows the preferred embodiment of the pres ent invention and to which reference is had herein by like characters designating corresponding parts throughout the several. views :Figure 1 is a longitudinal sectional view of a portionof a shoe embodying 'my invention. Fig. 2 is a detached perspective view of the main heelsection removed from the shoe. Fig. 3 is a detached perspective view of the removable heel section. Fig. 4 is an enlarged perspective view of the locking plate removed fromthe'removable heel section, and, Fig. '5 is a longitudinal sectional view of the locking plate with the locking nail in fastened position. Briefly described, the present invention comprises a removable heel section that may -be formed of leather, rubber, or any suitable material and which maybe dctachably secured to amajor heel section. There is provided a particular form. of locking plate which is embedded within the removable heel. section and adapted to'operatively engage the locking nail or bolt permanently secured to the major heel section.

Referring more in detail to the accompanying drawing, the reference letter A designates the upper of shoe having the usual major heel section. B formed of lifts in the usual manner and secured to the shoe inthe'ordinary way, while G designates the removable heel section.

'A detached view of-thema'jor heel section- B is-shown in Fig. 2 and has permanently fixed thereto the nails or bolts 10, as best seen in Fig. 5, the said nails being suitably positioned in anydesired manner to facilitate their proper engagement with the lock collars 11 that are adapted to limit the inward movement of the said nails within the major heel section B, asclearly illustrated in the said Fig. 2. The projecting ends of the nails 10 are provided with oval-shaped heads 12 for purposes to be later described.

The removable-heel section G and-shown in detail in Fig. 3 may be formed of rubber, leather or any other suitable material and is provided on its upper face with key-hole shaped sockets or recesses 13 andsin which are received the locking plates D. These locking plates D are formed from sheet metal and bent to the position shown in Figs. 4 and 5 to provide an upper and lower section 14 and 15 respectively. The blank is preferably bent in its middle portion and is provided with a roll 16 at one end to add resiliency to the device while the lower section 15 is turned over the end of the upper section'as at 17 to hold the sections 14: and 15 in folded position. A key-hole shaped slot is provided in the upper section and is designated 18 and through which the nail 10 carried by the major heel section B is adapted to slide. A depression or recess 19 is "formed in the lower section 15 of the looking plate and constitutes a seat for the oval head 12 of the said nail.

The locking plates D are inserted within the key-hole shaped openings 13 in the upper 'wall of the removable heel section C and resection '14 of the locking plate effectively retains the nail in position by engagement with the head of the same; and prevents aceidental slipping or relative movement of the heel sections B and C.

It is to be noted that the present construction of heel embodies few working parts and in which the several elements are extremely simple 1n construction andinexpensive to manufacture, and While I have herein shown and described the preferred embodiment of my invention, I do not wlsh to confine myself thereto, as various other forms, modifications and arrangements of the parts may be made Without departing from the spirit and scope of the invention as claimed.

What I claimas new is Means for securing a removable heel section to a shoe comprising a locking plate embodying upper and lower sections, the former having a key-hole shaped slot and a shoe heel and having a projecting head to he received within said key-hole shaped slot, the locking plate having a socket in the lower section arranged to receive said nail head and hold the removable heel section in locked position.
