CUSHION T01 LIFT-FOR HEELS.
Speciilcation'of Letters Patent.
Patented Mar. as, sets.
Application filed May 16, 1914. Serial No. 839,001.
Be it known that I,JOHN A. Hanna citi zen of the United States, residing at Union, in the county of Carroll and State of New Hampshire, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Cushion Top Lifts for Heels; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention relates to cushion top lifts for heels, and one of the principal objects of the invention is to provide a. leather top lift provided with a series of rubber plugs seated therein, said plugs having oppositely disposed vacuum recesses 'for preventing the wearer from slipping on icy pavements and also to prevent the rubber plugs from being withdrawn from the toplift.
Another object of the invention is to provide a leather top lift having a. series of tapering rubber plugs secured thereto by means of a vacuum recess on the upper surface of the plug to assist in holding the plug in place, and a recess -u on the lower face to prevent the wearer rem slipping, said plug also serving to extend the wearing qualities of the top lift.
These and other objects may be attained by means of the construction illustrated in the accompanyin drawings, in which;
Figure 1 is e p an View of a cushion toplift secured to the heel portion of a shoe, said topli'ft being made in accordance with this invention, and Fig. 2 is a sectional view taken on the line 2-2 of Fig. l.
Referring to the drawings, the numeral ll designates the outer sole of a shoe and-El are the ordinary leather lifts of the heel. The top lift 3 as shown, is some thicker than the lifts 2 and is provided with a plurality of 1 tapering circular openings l extending entirely through the lift 3. The rubber .plugs 5 are each provided with a concave recess 6 upon their upper sides and an oppositely disposed concave recess 7 upon the lower side or tread surface. The plugs 5 are frosteconical in form and the recess 4 is of similar form to hold the plugs firmly in lace. The concave recess 6 also assists gelding the plugs in place, as a partial vacuum will be formed in this recess when the top lift is secured to the heel by means of the nails or fastenings 8. 0
As shown in the drawings there are three vacuum plugs shown connected to the lift, but it will be understood that any suitable number may be used and that their disposition in the toplift may be changed.
From the foregoing it will be obvious that a toplift made in accordance with this invention and secured to the heel of a shoe will give an elastic tread, will prevent slipping owing to the vacuum cavities in the plugs and that a top lift made as described will last longer than the ordinary leather lift and can be readily. replaced when Worn out. A single plug may be used for Cuban or French heels on ladies shoes, owing to the small size of the top liit in this kind of shoes.
Various changes may be made in the details of construction without departing from the spirit and scope of the invention as defined in the claim.
What is claimed is:
The hereindescribed cushion top lift comprising a leather lift having a series of tapering openings therein, and rubber plugs of frusto-conical form fitted in said openings and provided each with a concave recess in its upper side and a concave recess in its lower side to form vacuum cavities, and mid plugs extending slightly beyond the outer surface or" said top lift. i
In testimony whereof I ailix my ture in presence of two Witnesses.
