To all whom-it may concern:
Be it known that I, FREDERICK HorrMAN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Schenectady, in the county of Schenectady and State of New York, have invented new and useful Improvements in Combined \Vashtubs and \Vashboards, of which the following is a specification.
This invention is an improved combined wash tub and wash board, the object of the invention being to provide a wash tub, the wall of which is formed with a portion having integral corrugations forming rubbing ribs so that a wash board is provided at one side of the tub wall; another object being to effect improvements in the construction of i the wall so that the rubbing portion thereof is straight and hence is adapted for use as a spout or chute for emptying the tub; another object being to provide the tub wall with an inwardly extending overhanging collar at its upper side which leads to the rubbing portion of the wall and serves to prevent water from splashing out-of the tub either when the tub is in use as a wash tub or when the tub is being inclined in order to pour out the water therefrom.
Another object of the invention is to effect improvements in the construction of the tub whereby a splash flange is formed at the upper side of the wash board which splash flange is also adapted for use as a soap holder and may be turned out of the way when desired.
In the accompanying drawings :--Figure 1 is a perspective view of a combined wash tub and wash board constructed in accordance with my invention with the splash flange and soap holder of the wash or rubbing board turned outwardly, out of the way. Fig. 2 is a vertical sectional view of the same with the splash flange in the same position. Fig. 3 is a detail perspective view, partly in section, showing the splash flange and soap holder arranged in position for use. Fig. t is a vertical sectional view of the same.
My improved wash tub and board may be made of any suitable-material but is referably made of suitable sheet metal. The bottom 1 is here shown as nearly circular and as provided witha straight side 2. The wall 3 is formed from a single piece of metal. is flared or inclined upwardly and outwardly so that the diameter of the tub tom, the said straight portion 5 of the Wall beingfornied with integral longitudinal corrugations 6 which form rubbing ribs. The grooves between the said rubbing ribs are open at their ends where the flat portion of the walljoins the curved portion thereof and hence the ends of the rubbing corrugations are entirely unobstructed and no angles are produced in which particles of dirt are liable to lodge, all parts of the interior of the tub as well as of its exterior being exposed and accessible so that the tub may be very readily cleansed and kept in very sanitary condition. The bottom is here shown as formed with an upstanding flange 7 around its edge, which flange extends upwardly on the lower portion of the wall of the tub and is soldered or otherwise secured thereto. The oint S in the integral wall of the tub is formed at a point directly oppo site the inclined fiat rubbing portion 5. The tub is also provided with a collar 9 which springs inwardly and upwardly from the wall of the tub and extends entirely around the curved portion of the tub and terminates at the sides of the rubbing portion 5, as at 10, the terminals of the collar being rounded as shown. This collar is formed separately from the wall and is secured thereto as by means of solder and is formed at its upper edge with an inturned strengthening head 11. This collar extends across the joint 8 between the ends of the integral tub wall and hence serves to materially strengthen the construction of the wall, as will be understood. The collar also serves to prevent water from splashing out of the tub when the tub is in use, and when the tub is inclined, in order to pour out its contents over the chute or spout formed by the'fiattened 'rubbing wall 5, the said collar serves to di- 3 wall and hence may be turned outwardly,
out of the way, or may be turned so as to extend into the tub, above the rubbing wall, and eoaet with the collar 9 to prevent splashing and spilling, of the suds over the 1' upper edge of the rubbing wall and also serve for use zs a soap holder.
