Be it known that I, ARTHUR SAVARD, a British subject, and a resident of Omaha, in the county of Douglas and State of Nebraska, have invented a new and Improved Trap for- Sinks, Bath-Tubs, and the Like, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.

This invention relates to traps; and it consists, substantially, in the details of construction and combinations of parts hereinafter more particularly described, and pointed out out in the claims.

The invention has reference more especially to traps for sinks, bath-tubs, washbasins, and the like, pertaining generally to the type of such devices forming the subject of Letters Patent N 0. 782,760, granted toime on the 14th day of February, 1905, and wherein is described a trap admirably adapted as an attachment for sinks and the like already in use. v

One of the principal objects of the present invention is to referred to which in its practical entirety forms an integral part of the sink, bath-tub, or washbasin with which it may be associated and which is simple in-construction and comparatively inexpensive to manufacture, besides being of easy access for the purposes of cleansing or empt g the same of its accumulated contents and possessing the capacity for long and repeated service.

A further object of the .invention is to dis pense with several of the elements necessarily employed in the structure of my former Letters Patent referred to and to overcome numerous disadvantages quently encountered in the use of many other structures hitherto devised with like ends in view.

The above and additional objects are attained by means illustrated in the accompanying drawings, forming a part of this specification, inwhich similar characters of reference indicate corresponding parts in the several views.

' Figure 1 is a vertical sectional view on the line 1 1 of Fig. 2 of a portion of a sink, bathtub, washbasin, or the like having my improved trap embodied in connection therewi th. Fig. 2 is a top plan view thereof, and Fig. 3 is a View in detail of a portion of the structure looking at Fig. 1 from the right.

Before proceeding with a more detailed description it may be stated that in the form of provide a trap of the character and objections fre' substantially such as are 1 my improvements herein shown I employ a specially-constructed receptacle cast integrally with the sink or similar structure with which the same is associated, special means being employed adjacent the outlet-opening of the receptacle for preventing siphoning of the water therein, which forms the seal at the lower part thereof. I also employ a special inner receptacle of suitable foraminated or reticulated material, the same being self-supporting in the receptacle first named, so as to be capable of being readily lifted out or removed wliencver desired. Other special features of construction are employed, and while I have herein shown my improvements in a certain preferred embodiment it will be understood, of course, that I am not limited thereto in precise detail, since immaterial changes therein may be resorted to coming within the scope of my invention.

Reference being had to the drawings by the designating characters thereon, 1 represents what'may be termed the outer receptacle or casing of my formed integrally tub, or washbasin 3, withwllich it is intend ed the trap shall be associated in use, the joinder between the two being effected by means of an annular recessed and outturned flange member 4. (See Fi 1.) Said outer receptacle is of any desired eight and diameter, and formed in the side thereof at a suitable part of its height is an outlet-opening 5, surrounding the edge of which is an externally-threaded tubular branch 6, to which may be fitted the usual outlet or exit pipe. (Not shown.) The lower part of the outer receptacle 1 is of reduced diameter, as shown, thus to form a downward hollow extension 7, which is closed at its lower end by means of a screw-plug 8, fitting within the same and preferably formed in the upper surface there of with a recess 9, opening to the interior of the said outer receptacle 1, said extension being formed for the full width of the outer receptacle, as shown.

Leading at from the upper edge of the outlet-opening 5 in the outer receptacle 1 is an apron or arched member 11, the lower extremity 12 of which extends below the plane of the upper surface of the b0ttom 13 of the said receptacle and enters for a suitable extent the interior of the said downward extene sion 7 thereof. By means of this embodiment siphoning of the Water or other liquid 14, forming a seal for the'trap, is prevented improved trap,

upper end of this receptacle being closed by means of a lid 18, hinged at 19, as shown. The entire structure of the said inner receptacle 16 is preferably of foraminated material, because of the fact that it is stronger and better suited in many res ects than when made of reticulated materia althou h it will be understood that the latter materia may be employed therefor in some instances. The bottom of the inner receptacle is referably concaved and intersects with the sides thereof in such manner as to avoid angles and corners, which would be apt to become bent or indented by contact with external objects in the handling of said inner receptacle.

claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent 1. A trap comprising an outer rece tacle forming an integral part of a sink, bat -ti1b or the like and contracted at its lower extrem- 'ity to form a hollow extension, the latter being for the full width of the receptacle and closed by a screw-plug, an arched member I extending from the upper edge of the outletopening ofs' said receptacle and having the lower extremity thereof extending below the plane of the bottom of the receptacle and 4 within the said hollow extension, and an inner receptacle ofjoraminated material removably fitted within said outer receptacle at the upper part thereof.

2. A trap comprising an outer rece tacle forming an integral part of a sink, bat -tub or the like and contracted at its lower extremity to form a hollow extension, the latter being for the full width of the receptacle and closed by a screw-plug, an arched member extending from the upper edge of the outletopening of said receptacle and having the a lower extremitythereof extending below the plane of the bottom of the receptacle and within-the said hollow extension, and an inner receptacle of foraminated material removably fitted Within said outer receptacle at the upper part thereof, said inner recepta ole being self-seating within the said outer receptacle with the sides thereof ta ering downwardly and the bottom thereo concaved.

A trap for sinks, bath-tubs or the like 3 comprising an outer receptacle having an outlet-opening therein at one side and formed at its lower end with a downward extension dis osed for the full width thereof and rovid ed with a closing device, and an arc ed member leading from the up er edge of said outlet-opening and extendin below the plane of the upper surface of the ottom of the receptacle substantially intermediate of opposite sides of the said downward extension whereby siphoning of the liquid forming the seal for the'trap is obviated.
