Description

A. MALSIN.
LADYS DRESS.
APPLIOATION FILED SBPT.15,1013.
Patented Dec. 1, 1914.
ALBERT MALSIN, OF NEW YORK, N. Y.
LADYS DRESS.
Application filed September 15, 1913.
To all @071 am it may concern Be it known that I, ALnnR'r MALSIN, citizen of the United States of America, residing at New York, in the county of New York and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Ladies Dresses, of which the following is a specification.
The present invention has for its object to provide a combination waist and skirt, both adjustable in width, and particularly adapted for use during pregnancy.
This invention particularly relates to dresses of such texture, that the gathering or plaiting of the excess width or fullness would be impracticable and render the dress very clumsy.
To accomplish my object, I provide a waist, the waist line of which by means of elastics is rendered adjustable in width, and a skirt, which is slit either partially or throughout its entire length either at the side or in front, and which only at the rear at the waist line is permanently fixed to the waist, while at the sides and in front it is detached rom the waist. The width of the skirt is made much larger than the width of a normal person, so that when the skirt is worn in normal condition the excess parts thereof at the slit will overlap one another more, and in abnormal condition less to lit the body. The two overlapping parts may be atlixed to one another by any suitable means as hooks and eyes, of which there may be a great plurality arranged in rows, so that the overlapping parts may be fixed to each other according to adjustment.
The novel feature of the dress resides in that the skirt is only partly permanently fixed to the waist and the unattached part thereof is longitudinally slit, whereby the adjustability of the skirt in width is rendered possible, without requiring any alteration or change of the shape of the skirt. Owing to the new construction, the skirt will always fit the wearer whether in nor mal or abnormal condition, and have a neat appearance.
To render my invention more clear, the same is illustrated in the accompanying drawing in which similar reference characters denote corresponding parts and in which Figure 1 shows the dress in normal condition; Fig. 2 in abnormal condition and Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented at... 1, 1914.
Serial NO. 789,733.
Fig. 3 shows an elevation of the dress, only a part of the waist and the skirt being shown.
The combination dress consists of the waist a and the skirt 7). The waist is made adjustable in width by an elastic band 0 provided at the waist line. or in any other suitable manner. The skirt part b of the dress is permanently fixed to the waist only at the rear part of the waist line, while the rest is detached from the waist, as at. 7), b. This detached part of the skirt is slit either partially or throughout the entire length of the skirt from the waist line on, as at (Z, (l. The width of the skirt is so measured as to be larger than the width of a normal person, so that when applied by the latter the excess portions of the skirts width will fold over or overlap one another, as indicated by the dotted line :0 in Fig. 1. to the extent required for the proper fit. \Vith a larger width, the excess portions will overlap a smaller extent, as indicated by the dotted line 1/ in Fig. 2.
The appearance or shape of the skirt in all instances remains the same.
The overlapping parts may be secured to one another by hooks and eyes, 6, f or the like, of which there may be a great number arranged in rows in close proximity to one another, so as to enable the closing of the skirt at different widths.
What I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
1. A ladys dress, consisting of a waist and a skirt, both adiustable in width. the skirt being only partially pcrmanentlyfixcd to the waist and the unattached portion thereof being slit longitudinally fromthe waist line. and means for afiixing the adjacent slit parts to one another.
2. A ladys dress. consisting of a waist and a skirt, both adjustable in width, the skirt being only at the rear permanently fixed to the waist and the unattached portion thereof being slit longitudinally from the waist line, and means for aflixing the adjustable slit parts to one another.
3. In a ladys dress. the combination with a waist having an elastic waist band, of .a skirt which is only partially permanently fixed to said waist and which is slit longi tudinally from the waist line, including means for affixing the slit parts to one another.
4; In a ladys dress, the cmbination' with In testimony whereof I afiix' my signature a Waist having an elastic Waist band, of a in presence of Witnesses.
skirt which is only at the rear permanently ALBERT MALSIN. fixed to the Waist and which is slit longi- Witnesses: 5 tudinally from the Waist line, including *W. LEVERMAN,
means for affixing the slit parts to one an- HARRY LEVERMAN, other. STEIN.
Gopies of this patent may be nbtainefi for five cents each, by addressing the Commissioner of Patents,
