UNITED srrArns PATENT OFFICE.
GUY MAX LONG, OF MONROE, NORTH CAROLINA.
LEAF-TURNER.
Application filed December 4, 1913.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, GUY MAX LONG, a citizen of the United States, residing at Monroe, in the county of Union and State of North Carolina, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Leaf-Turners, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to improvements in leaf turners, and more particularly to leaf turners used in connection with a piano.
An object of this invention is to provide means whereby a leaf of music may be turned by the operator by the simple depression of a key.
A further object of this invention is to provide means whereby my leaf turner may be adjusted to different size sheets of music.
A still further object of my invention is to provide a leaf turner which will be simple, efiicient and inexpensive to manufacture.
With the foregoing and other objects in view my invention relates to such details of construction and in the arrangement of parts as will be hereinafter fully described and specifically pointed out in the appended claim.
In describing my invention in detail reference will be had to the accompanying drawings wherein like characters denote like or corresponding parts throughout the several views and in which,
Figure 1 is a front elevation of a section of a piano my leaf turner being shown thereon. Fig. 2 is a top plan view of my turner, several positions of the same being shown in dotted lines. Fig. 3 is a perspective view of my turner. Fig. 4 is a detail view of one end of my turner. Fig. 5 is a view showing the spring used in my leaf turner.
In the drawings I have shown my device attached to any ordinary piano. I desire to state that I may attach my turner to any form of piano and not limit myself to any certain form whatsoever. Positioned upon the piano 1, is the bracket 2, which has the aperture 3, formed therein for a purpose that will be hereinafter fully described. Disposed above the bracket 2, is the second bracket 4, which also has an aperture 5, formed therein. Disposed within the aperture 3, is the coil spring 6, to which is connected one end of the shaft 7, the other end Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Nov. 17, 1914.
Serial No. 804,653.
of the shaft 7, is disposed in the aperture 5. Extending from the shaft 7, near the top and bottom thereof are the arms 8, upon which are slidable the sleeves 9, connecting the sleeves 9, together is the shaft 10, upon which are disposed the clasps 11, which are adapted to grip the edge of a sheet of music. Secured to the bracket 2, by any suitable means is the operating key 12, which has a struck down portion 13, formed thereon into which rests one of the arms 8.
Normally the turner is in the position as shown at 14, Fig. l but when the same is in the position as shown in full lines, Fig. 1, it is held against movement by means of the key 12. The edge of a sheet of music or the like may then be clasped by the clasps 11. The key is now depressed and sheet will be turned. It will be seen that my turner may be adjusted to most any size sheet of music or the like by means of the sleeve 9.
It will be noted that my invention can be readily applied; is of simple, cheap and durable construction; is of ornamental appearance; and is efiicient and practical.
I claim:
In a leaf turner, the combination with a support, an upper short bracket formed with a pair of attaching ears and an opening, a lower elongated bracket formed with a pair of long attaching ears and a casing having an opening, a shaft mounted in the openings of the bracket and casing, a fiat coiled spring arranged in the casing and having one end secured to the shaft and its other end secured to said casing, a pair of parallel arms extending from the shaft, a pair of sleeves slidingly mounted on said arms, a vertical rod connecting the outer ends of the sleeves, clamps for engaging the leaves carried by said rod, and a spring lever having its inner end formed with a lug for connection with one of the long ears of the lower bracket, having a contiguous bend forming a portion for engaging one of the arms and retaining said arms with sleeves and rod, and having a finger operating portion at its outer end.
In testimony whereof I aflix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
GUY MAX LONG.
