I-Iawkinsville, in the county of Pulaski and 1 State of Georgia, have invented a new and useful Tatting-Needle, of which the following is a specification.

The device forming the subject matter of this application is a tatting needle, and one object of the present invention is to provide a device of this sort which may be fashioned at trifling expense out of a single piece of material.

Another object of the invention is to provide a tatting needle which will hold the cord which is assembled with the needle firmly but yieldably without causing a dis tortion or bending of the needle.

It iswithin the scope of the invention to improve generally and to enhance the utility of, devices of that type to which the present invention appertains.

With the above and other objects in view which will appear as the description proceeds, the invention resides in. the combination and arrangement of parts and in the details of construction hereinafter described and claimed, it being understood that changes in the precise embodiment of the invention herein disclosed can be made within the scope of .What is claimed Without departing from the spirit of the invention.

In the accompanying drawing :Figure 1 shows in plan, one form of needle embodying the present invention; Fig. 2 is an elevation of the needle shown in Fig. 1; Fig. 3 is a plan showing a modified form of needle; Fig. 4 is a plan showing the cord assembled with that form of needle which is depicted in Fig. 1.

The tatting needleherein disclosed preferablyis fashioned from a single piece of Q material, of resilient qualities, blued steel being preferred. The needle includes a body portion 1, the body portion 1 being bent at both ends as indicated at 2 to form U-shaped heads 3, one side portion 4 of each head 3 being prolonged and bent upon itself as shown at 5 to form a prong 6, the free end 7 of which is disposed adjacent the free end 8 of the head 3. 4, 5 and 6 define a resilient cord holding loop terminating in a free prong 7.

The cord, indicated by the reference character 9 is engaged withthese loops and yieldingly held thereby, the loops being resilient. It is to be observed that the heads 3 lie upon opposite sides of the body 1, the prongs 6 lying upon opposite sides of the body. In other words, the heads 3 are diagonally disposed with respect to each other and a corresponding relation exists between the prongs 3. Owing tothis construction, the needle is reinforced, and the tendency for the needle to swing or bend laterally when the cord 9 is assembled with the resilient loops is correspondingly diminished. The Word cord is to be construed as meaning any material which may be handled expeditiously in a device of this type.
