,. .M ncE'L Us Bernini's, or AKRON, OHJlO'. I
To all whom it may c'on'ce'm:
Be it known that I, hhnonnnos B. CLARKE, a citiZen'ofthejUnited States, residing at Akron, in the county of Summit and Stateof ()hio, have invented a certain new and-useful Improvement in Hotater Bottles, of which the following is a full,
clear, and exact description, reference being had to the accompanying drawings.
This invention relates to hot Water bags or bottles of atype 'usually formed of rubher and having a body portion and a neck at one end, through which it is filled, and a flaring or funnel portion above the neck.
The general object of this invention is to provide a closure device for the neck of the bottle which shall he simple-in construction, and cheap to manufacture. Said device comprises a partial closureada'pted to fit into the neck-of the bottle and having a central opening adapted to receive a removable stopper.
More specific objects are to so construct such partial closure that it may conveniently be fitted securely into place and may be thoroughly water tight and which shall be of such material that it will not conduct the heat readily, while being durable in service.
My invention is hereinafter more fully described in connection with the drawings, and the essential characteristics set forth in the claims.
Figure 1 is a vertical section through the neck of the bottle showing my closure device; Fig. 2'is a horizontal section taken on the line22 of Fig. 1"; Fig. 3 is a perspective view ofthepartial-closure. L i
In the drawing, 5 denotes the usual body portion of the bottle which is contracted at itsupper end to form a neck 6, above which is formed a funnel-shaped portion 7 adapted to facilitate filling the bottle. Into the neck of the bottle is fitted a partial-closure or plug 10, preferably oval, and having an outwardly extendingbead 11 at its lower end and a concave surface 12 formed at the intermediate portion and an outwardly extending portidn 14 at the upper edge. This partial-elosure or plug is preferably made of solid material, such as hard rubber, ebon ite, or like material, which experience has shown may readily be made to adhere to the rubber of the bottle. It is to be understood, however, that I do not wish to be l mited to such material, as this plug may I norwarsnfiiorrrm.
Patented N 0v. 3, 1914.
hard wood, compressed paper, glass, or various other substances. Around this con cave surface 12 is preferably wound a friction fabric 15 adapted to adhere to the partial-closure and the neck of the bottle, and the partial-closureis then fitted into place, the neck of the bottle being securely held thereto by means of a suitable cement. The partial-closure is preferably additionally secured in place by a wire 16 wrapped tightly around the outside of the neck of the bottle. To give a finished appearance to the bottle, a band of rubber 19 is placed over the wire and around the neck, and is securely cementedin place.
Through the central portion of the partial closure is formed an opening 18 threadedin its upper portion and having a straight'reduced portion 20 at its lower end forming a shoulder 21 against which rests a rubber washer 23, secured to the lower end of a threaded metallic stopper 24 adapted to be screwed into the threaded portion of the opening 18. This stopper is provided with a suitable thumb-piece consisting of the usual loop 22.
At the upper edge of the neck of the funnel portion is provided an car 25 by whch the bottle may conveniently be carrie It will be seen from the foregoing de' scription that I have provided a closure device for the neck of the bottle which will not corrode, as will metal closures; which does not conduct heat readily and, accordingly, tends to retain it; which is of such form that it may be readily secured in place and cheaply manufactured, and, when once secured in place as described, it shall be very durable, there being nothing to work loose, and no leakage.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim is:
1. A closure for a neck of a water bottle.
comprising a solid partial closure for the neck and-having a concave portion about the exterior thereof and a band of friction material in the concave portion around which the neck of the bottle fits and having a central opening therethrough, threaded pt the upper end and having a shoulder at the bot tom of the threaded portion and an opening leading to the interior of the bottle.
2. The combination with a water bottle joints which can separate to permit having a contracted neck and a funnel portion above the contracted neck, of a partial closure for the neck of the bottle having a concave surface around its periphery adapted to fit the neck of the bottle, a central opening through the partial closure the upper portion of which is threaded to receive a removable plug, and a friction fabric secured around the partial closure around such concave portion between the partial closure and the neck of the bottle.
3. The combination with a Water bottle having a contracted neck and funnel portion above the neck, of a partial closure for the neck of the bottle comprising a solid body having an outwardly projecting portion at .its lower and upper edges forming in effect flanges between which is a concave portion adapted to fit the neck of the bottle, a friction fabric around such concave portion, a'
narrow hand drawn tightly around the outer portion of the neck of the bottle, and a rubber strip covering such band.
Copies of this patent may he obtained for five cents each, lay-addressing the Comim'ri'ssioner of Patents 4. The combination of a water bottle having a contracted neck and funnel portion above the neck, of a partial closure fer the neck of the bottle comprising a solid'body of hard rubber or like material having an outwardlyprojecting portion at its lower and upper edges forming in effect flanges between which is a concave portion adapted to fit the neck of the bottle and having a central opening therethrough threaded at the upper portion and provided with a sl'iould'er' at'the lower portion, a threaded plug threaded into said opening, a friction fabric around said concave portion, a narrow band drawn tightly around the outer portion of the neck of the=bottle, and a rubber strip covering such band.
In testimony whereof, I hereunto affix my signature in the presence of two witnesses.
