LOCKING DOOR-PULL.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Oct. 20,1914.
Application filed July 3, 1914. Serial No. 848,?61.
To all a 710m it m my concern Be it known that l, llironas t). Scneaonn, a citizen of the United States, residing at Allentown, in the county of Lchigh and State of Pennsylvania, hare invented certain new and useful improvements in Locking Door-Pulls, of which the fication.
My invention relates to a lever handle and lock door-pull, for refrigerator and other doors arranged so that slamming the door: causes the lever-handle to be operated to hold the door closed and at the same time permit by such act of the lever-handle being brought into such a position to permit manually then of the said handle beingbrought into connection with the lock oi": said doorpull to secure the door against opening until unlocked and in such connection my invention. relates to the constructive arrangement of the said defined device for the purpose on plained.
The nature and scope of my present invention will be more fully understood from the following description taken in connection with the accompanying drawings forming part hereof, in which- Figure 1., is a front elevational view of the lever handle and loci; door-pull for refrigerator and other doors embodying the essential main features oi my said invention,
showing the door in a closed position andthe lever-handle in such position as to permit manually of engaging the lever hahdle tongue with the lock member of the doorull. Fig. 2', is a similar view of the sidei'rznne of the door, showing the lever pivoted to a bracket removably applied to said frame and with a back-stop and with the hub of the leverdnmdle formed with an inclined cam and with a projection to engage the backstop ot' the bracket to limit. the range of movement in one direction of said lever-handle and the said lever-handle in. one portion provided with a notched or reto engage the lock of the said door-pull. Fig. 3, is a transverse sectional View on the line ;r-.2:, of: Fig. and Fig. 4, is a central longitudinal sectional view through the lock of the'door-pnll, to the right, as shown in Fig. 2.
Referring to the drawings a, and a, is the frame against wh .h the door is closed, as clearly illustrated in Fig. l. A bracket'b, is provided which is removably the door following is a speci secured to the frame oi as illustrated in Figs. 1 and 2. The said bracket is also provided in one part with a projection 6 This bracket has pivoted to it an angular leverhandle 5 provided with a hub 5 and formed as part of the hub is a cam b and beyond the cam D, and as part of the hubis arranged a projection b, to engage the stop if, of the bracket 6, so as to limit in one direction the rotary movement of the said leverdiandle Z2 The lever-handle b on one side is provided with a notched or recessed projection Z), to engage the lock d, of. the door-pull c. The door-pull c, is rem'ovably secured to the door a, and-is formed as an integral part of the said lock cl. The doorpull 0, in the upper portion has a tapered projection 0 to engage and ride the cam 6*, of the lever-handle 5 when the door a, is
slammed to and against the framed, for
example, so as to occupy the position as illustrated in Fig. 1, and in order manually the notched or recessed projection I), of the lever-handle 6 may be "forced into the lock (Z, for example, as illustrated in Fig. 4, for then turning the key (5 The lock (1, as illustrated in Fig. 4, is provided with a leaf-spring (Z bearing against a keepertongue (l so that when the projection b", has been permitted to enter the lock d, by
turning of the key 11 the said projection will be maintained in locking engagement with the said keeper-tongue.
To operate the leverhandle b occupying the position to the left in Fig. 2, so that it may be caused to assume the position as shown in Fig. 1, it is only necessary to slain the door. Then by a slight further manual movement downward of the lever-handle the notched projection I), will be permitted to enter the aperture (5, of the lock d, and be then in a position to permit the spring controlled keeper-tongue (Z of the lock to engage the notched projection b, when the key (Z is turned in the lock (i, so as thereby to secure the door pull against opening of the door. 1
Having thus described the nature and objects of my invention, what'l claim as new and desire to secure'by Letters Patent is 1. A device of the character described, comprising a. lever-handle having a projection and a hub with a cam as part of the same, a door-pull having atongue and a lock, said projection adapted to enter said that then described.
2. A device of the character described, comprising a 1ever-ha1id1e mounted in a bracket having a stop and projection, a hub having an inclined cam and a back-stop and a door-pull With a tapered tongue and a lock, said projection adapted to enter said lock and said tongue adapted to engage said cain, substantially as and for the described. v
In witness whereof, I have hereunto set my signature in the presence of the two sub scribing Witnesses.
