Be it known that I, SIMON JoNEs,citiZen oi the United States, residing atv New York city, in the county and State of New York, rave invented certain new and useful Improvements in Collapsible Cribs, ot, which the following is a specification. i *y This invention relates to a new and useful improvement in cribs and is designed to furnish a crib which may be `folded and at the same time be sanitary. y

The device is especially intended vfor use in hospitals, schools or other places where there are a number of children in the same room or where the cribs are located together.

A crib such as is herein set forth may be folded so as to occupy a small space and a number of them may be kept ready at hand for use. At thesame time the crib is so constructed that there are scarcely any loose or open places where unsanitary matter may find a lodgment and cling therein.

In the drawings: Figure 1 represents a perspective view of the crib ready for use.

Fig. 2 is an enlarged plan view of one end of the crib. Fig. 3 is an end view of the device opened for use. Fig. 4 is a transverse section of the crib folded. Fig. 5 is a to view of a portion of the folded crib.

In these drawings, the numeral 1 designates a crib or similar structure which has the supporting legs 2, 2` and 3, 3 on casters 4, a pair of legs 2 and 3 oneach side having rigidly secured to them the bottom and top longitudinal rails 5 and 6 to which are rigidly secured the vertical rods 7 each pair of legs, the rails secured thereto and the rods, forming a rigid side of the crib. Each post 2, 2 and 3, 3 has on the insidesecured to it the two brackets 8 and 9,l one bracket 8 near the top and the other bracket 9 about in a line with the bottom longitudinal bar 5. Each bracket has a horizontal arm 10, through which there is a hole, the holes of a pair of brackets on each leg 2 and 3 being in line vertically.

Passing loosely through the alined holes of each pair of brackets is a vertical rod 11. At each bracket the rod 11 passes through two ears 12, 12 which are on opposite sides of the horizontal arm 10, these ears 12, 12 being formed upon the top and bottom rails 13 and 14 of the ends 15 of the crib 1. One of the rigid sides of the `crib pro' vided 'on the inside with a longitudinal rod 20 which `is secured at its ends 21, `to the bottom rail 5 near its ends. y i

The bottom 22 of the crib is made of longitudinal slats 23,'which vare secured at their ends 24 to end slats 25. These end `slats 25 are made with loops `26 which pass aroundthe rod 20. `The slat` 23 at'the edge oit' the bottom "away from the loop side of the end slats 25 has two catches 2,7 adapted to hook over the bottom rail 5 of the side of the crib. The bottom 22 is made of a size and shape to fit snugly within the sides and ends of the crib. The posts 2, 2 and 3, 3 have orifices 28v in the tops in which are caught the ends of:

The end slats 25 being made with the loops 26, the latter are thuspart of the structure ofthe bottom 22, integral with the bottom and not merely fastened to it. Hence in use these loops would not be pulled loose from the bottom. The lingers 19 give to the joints formed by the bottom hinges 17 a rigidity` which has the etl'ect of stiii'- ening the bottom rails 14 so that when eX- tendedthey are like solid rails.

By the use of the canopy holderv 29, 29, these form spreaders bracing the hinged ends and aiding in preventing any accidental movement of the hinged parts. They also act to keep the hinged parts of the ends extended and aid the fingers 19 in giving rigidity to the ends when open and thus to the entire crib. IThey also aid in preventing the occupant of the crib from moving thek hinges with liability of injury.

As has been stated,lthis crib is designed primarily for usewhenthere are a number of children. Manifestly it has great advantages. `But a folding crib should have only as many loose places asis possible for its operation. The' present device is intended to reduce these to a minimum. Hence all the joints which are necessary in the construction of the crib, except those used 'for the operation of folding, are riv eted. Not only does this riveting prevent loosening of parts but it makes the crib Sanitary as nothing unsanitary can be vlodged in the jointed places, the rivetingv efi'ectually preventing this. l

The operation of the device is obvious from its construction. The bottom is swung up and slid down vertically alongside of the sides, the canopy holders are removed, the
