` Box-CARRIER. y 4
To all whom it may concern Be it known that l, BENJAMIN @.WINANS, residing at Livingston, in the county of Essex, State of New Jersey, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Box-Carriers; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
The present invention is directed to iinprovenients in box carriers, and has for its object to soconstruct a device of this character that the same can be easily and quickly positioned in proper respect. to the box so that the box may be conveniently carried.
A further object of the invention is to provide a carrier having flexibly connected handles so arranged that they may be adjusted toward or away from each other to engage the sides or ends of lhe box, and at the same time be conveniently located for grasping.
With these and other objects in view, this invention resides inthe novel features of construction, formation, combination and arrangement of parts to be hereinafter more fully described, claimed and illustrated in the accompanying drawing, in which Figure l is an end view of a box, showing the device in use in connection therewith. Fig. 2 is a fragmentary side elevation of the saine. Fig. 3 is a detail perspective view of one of the handles. Fig. l is a sectional view on line 4 4 of Fig. 3.
The carrier comprises a pair of handles 1, each handle consisting of triangular metal plates 2 which areconnected by rods 3, said rods having their ends connected to the plates adjacent each corner thereof. To one of the rods 3 is stitched one end of the strap il, which may be formed from any suitable material. rllhe other end of the strap is looped around one of the rods 3 of the cooperating handle and is adjustably connected to the strap d by a buckle 5, upon adjustment of which the strap can be shortened or lengthened to properly position the handle upon the sides of the box.
rlhe edges G and 7 of the plates 2 terminate in slightly inclined edges 8 and 9, re-
spectively, the edges of which being for the Speccaton of Letters Patent.
purpose of more effectually gripping the sides of the box so as to prevent the handles from slipping longitudinally.
It will be noted that the strap 4l may engage either one of the rods 3 to which the ends are not attached so that a rod of each handle will be in a position. to be grasped to lift the box'when it is resting upon the strap and the handles are in engagement with the sides thereof. It will be noted that the inclined flanges are provided for two edges of each plate 2, as the unflanged edges of the plates will never engage the sides ofr kthe box. f
By providing the triangular plates 2 the connecting rods 8 will be disposed in triangular relation so that the rods to which the ends of the strap is attached will always occupy the saine position in relation to the box whereas the other rods may alternate in engaging the strap l near its attached end so that one of the rods 3 will be in a position to serve as a hand grip for lifting the cox.,
lt is obvious that when the rods forming the handle grips are grasped and strain applied thereto the vertical edges of the plates 2 will engage' the sides of the box, and at which time the strap 4 will be taut, thus holding the plates 2 in tight engagement with the sides of the box.
lt is obvious that a carrier constructed in the manner` set forth will greatly facilitate the handling of heavy boxes or the like which are not provided with permanent handles. i
lWhat is claimed is i l. A box carrier comprising a pair` of handles consisting of plates, said plates being connected by triangularly disposed rods, a strap adjustably connecting certain of the rods and thus the handles, one rod of each handle arranged to engage the strap near its adjacent end, and other rods of the handles being` disposed to facilitate gripping thereof, as and for the purpose set forth.
2. A box carrier comprising a pair of handles, each consisting of triangular shaped plates, rods having their ends, connected adjacent the corners of the plates, whereby said rods are disposed in triangular relation, an adjustable strap having its ends con- Patented ct.n 13,1914.-
