TIE-CLASP.

To all whom it may concern: I a Be it known that I, CHARLES F. WILLING- HAM, a citizen of the United States, residing 'at Houston, in the county of Harris and State of Texas, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Tie-Clasps, of which the following is a specification.

My invention relates to new and useful improvements in tie clasps.

a device of the character described, which may be secured to the ordinary neck tie, commonly worn by men and which will hold said tie firmly in position and prevent the same from becoming loose or untied. v

With the above and other objects inview, the invention has particular relation to certain novel features of construction and arrangement of parts, an example of which is given in this specification and illustrated in the accompanying drawings, wherein- Figure 1 is a front view of the clasp. Fig. 2 is a rear view thereof, and Fig. 3 is a sectional-side elevation thereof. Fig. 4 is an enlarged fragmentary view showing the hinge connecting the clasp and thehasp.

This device includes a surrounding clasp 1 which is designed to be secured around the knot of the tie and rest closely against the collar of the wearer in front. This clasp is slightly funnel shaped and thefront portion thereof is open so as to expose the tie to view, having only the stays 2 and 3, running from top to bottom and from side to side, respectively, thereof. The rear portion 4 of the clasp is hinged to the clasp 1 so that it may be opened andv closed in the manner of a hasp. This portion 4 swings on-the hinges 5, and connected to one of said hinges 5, at one end and to the clasp 1 at the other, is the coil spring 6, which is so arranged that its tension against the hinge 5 normally tends to hold the hasp 4 open.

The free side of the hasp 4 is providedwith an eye 7 and the corresponding edge of the clasp 1 is provided with two similar eyes 8 and 9, through which the rod 10 is arranged to slide back and forth. Surrounding this rod 10 is a coil spring 11, one end of which rests against the eye 9 and the other end of which is secured on the rod 10 by means of collar 10 and the tension of this spring tends to hold said rod in position in said eyes 8 and 9 so that the free end thereof will project beyond the eye 8 and engage in the eye 7 of the hasp/1- when Specification of Letters Patent The object of the invention is to provide Patented 0a. 13, 1914.

The numeral 13 refers to a spring stay, which is secured to the lower end of hasp 4 by means of a rivet 14 and the upper end of which is free and has an inward curve, so

as to engage against the rearside of the tie and hold the same clasped firmly between said stay and the clasp 1. This stay has an oblong slot 15 which registers with a similar slot 16 in the hasp 4 and passing through these slots is av sliding rivet 17, having an enlarged head at. each end so as to prevent the disengagement of the same from said slots. As this rivet 17 is moved up or down, the free end of stay 13 is fo'rcedoutwardly from the tie or springs inwardly against-it as 'is 'indicatedin full and dotted lines in Fig. 3. The lower end of hasp 4 carries an inwardly extending tongue 18 which projects against the tie from behind and holds the same firmly against the lower'portionjof the clasp 1 and thus gives a better form thereto.
