Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented ct. 6, 191A.
Application filed September 17, 1913. SerialNo. 790,155.
To all whom t may concern.'
Be it lrnown that 1, CHAnLns A. Anemia,v a citizen of the United States, and a resident of the city of Quincy, county of Adams, and State of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Cabinets, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to improvements in cabinets and more particularly to a drawer construction for the cabinets, whereby the drawer may be fully withdrawn from the cabinet without danger of tilting` and falling, and has for its object the provision of an improved construction of this character which is efficient in use, and strong and durable.
rlhe invention consists in the combinations and arrangements of parts hereinafter described and claimed.
The invention will be best understood by reference to the accompanying drawings forming a part of this specification, and in which, L
Figure 1 is a perspective view of a cabinet embodying my invention, Fig. 2, an enlarged horizontal section taken immediately under the bottom of a drawer of the cabinet, Fig. 3, a longitudinal section taken through a drawer of the cabinet, and Fig. 4L, a transverse section of a drawer of the dcabinet.
The preferred form of construction as illustrated in the drawings comprises a suitable cabinet 1 having suitable drawer compartments therein adapted to receive the ordinary slidable drawers 2, as will be readily understood. Arranged in each of the drawer compartments is a slidable frame 3 which is provided with longitudinal slots 4C in its sides. A guide block 5 is arranged in each of the slots l and is secured in position in casing 1 by means of a. bolt 6 eX- tending therethrough and also serving to secure a washer 7 to the top of the block, said washer being of a size to extend over the adjacent portions of the corresponding side of frame 3 to prevent vertical movement of said frame but permit sliding thereof. The inner faces of the sides of frame 3 are provided with longitudinal grooves S having entry notches 9 at the rear thereof. 1t will be observed that the notches 9 are arranged at the extreme rear ends of grooves S at a distance from the front of frame 3 greater than the length of the drawer 2 and also that the drawer is substantially snug-fit in compartment 1, so that it is impossible to remove or up-set the drawer without completely removing frame 3. As the cabinet illustrated is especially adapted for the retention of hardware, such features are highly desirable. A cross bar 10 is secured to the bottom of the drawer and is provided with tongues 11 at its ends adapted to enter through notches 9 and slide in grooves 8, thus permitting the drawer to slide relatively to frame 3 but preventing the drawer from tilting with respect to said frame. The drawer also carries a stop bar 12 which is adapted to contact with a stop block 13 arranged on a central bar 14 of frame 3, said stop bar and stop block being so positioned that they will engage only after partial withdrawal of the drawer with respect to the frame 3.
In use when one of the drawers 2 is withdrawn from its compartment, it first slides on frame 3 until stop bar 12 contacts with stop block 13, whereupon the frame 3 isv forced to slide with the drawer and constitutes a support for the drawer when withdrawn from the cabinet. The blocks 5 constitute simple and effective guides for frame 3 and the washer' 7 and bolts 6 constitute a strong and durable means for holding the corresponding block 5 in position and also for preventing tilting of the frame 3 under the weight of drawer 2 when withdrawn from the cabinet. The drawer may be removed or attached to frame 3 by inserting or withdrawing tongues 11 through notches 9.
While I have illustrated and described the preferred form of construction for carrying my invention into effect, this is capable of variation and modification without departing from the spirit of the invention. I, therefore, do not wish to be limited to the precise details of construction set forth, but desire to avail myself of such variations and modifications as fall within the scope of the appended claim.
Having described my invention what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
A cabinet comprising a casing provided with a drawer compartment; a frame slidable in said compartment and having longitudinal grooves in the inner faces of the frame sides, there being entry notches at the extreme inner ends of said grooves;
10 on said diawci and frame arranged to e11- gagc after partial withdiawal of said d uwer, substantially as described.
ii testimony whereof have signed my 11eme to this specification in he presence of two subscribing witnesses.
