Description

J. P. RIDEOUT. HAY LOADER.
No. 111,252. Patented Jan. 24, 1871.
, i' wnmli Letters Patent No. 111,252, dated January 24, 187 1.
I impRovn-jmgnr m HAY-LOADERS.
the Schedule referred to in these Letteusfatent and making part of the same.
Be it known that I, J 011x 1. ltln'noe'r, of the town of Bowdoi nham, in county of Sagadahoe' and State of 'Maine, have invented a new and useful Machine 'for landing-Bay; and I hereby declare the following to d e a 'full,-clear,- and exact description of the same,-
reference beingliad to the aceoin 'ianyingdrawing, in whicli-.- v Figure 1 is a perspective \-'iQ\\i,;iI-lld Figure 2 is a transverse sectional view.
The purpose of my invention is to provide a device attached 'to and operated by an ordinary hay-cart, by means of which the 'hay standing in bunches in the fields may lie-easily and expeditiously loaded into the cart. r
p The hay-gathererl is 'conneeted with the cart by means of a frame-work lattaelieil to the cart-body, as follows\: I
First, by means of the two horizontal pieces A A; then by'nieans of the vertical timbers B B, which are supported by the timbers G O.-
To the lower end of the vertical timbers B B are jointed the arms D D, carrying the gather-or and elevator a.
At the top of vertical timbers B B is the roller d.
I Over this roller run the cords or traces 19, extending to the elevator and attachedto the inner end thereof, and intended to be wound upon the roller ll as theelevator is raised, and vice 'vbrsa. These prevent t he hay from sliding from the elevator as the lat v ter is raised. I
The lines 1* and G, attached to the inner mnlsni we eorusor traces 19, pass up over'the roller (1., thenthrough pulleys or sheaves H I; then around the frietion-pnlley b, which is rigidly attached to one of the cart-wheels, so that, as the cartis drawn along the field, the lines are takenup around the-pulley 1) until the elevator is brought to a vertical position, when the hay drops into the rack. By reversing the motion of the cart the elevator drops, by its own weight, to the ground. The lines 1 and G, after passing around the. irietion-pulley, are held by the driver for the purpose of keeping them taut, the friction of the same around the pulley b being sutiieient to raise the elevator.
The elevator and the arms supporting the same may be braieed in any convenient manner to the cartbody, to give the former more strength and firmness. What 1 claim as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
The combination of the roller ll, the'pulley I), the lines H I, and the elevator a, with the hay-cart, for the purposes and in the manner described.
