STRAW-STACKER,
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 269,561, dated December 26, 1882,
Application filed May 11, 1882. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, HENRY CoR'rELYow, a citizen of the United States, residing at Fairland, in the county of Shelby and State of Indiana, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Straw-Smokers; and I do declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters and figures of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.
My invention relates to portable straw-stackers, andis an improvementon the devicegranted to me in the United States Letters Patent No. 257,556; and it consists in details of construction and arrangement of the several parts, as will be hereinafter more fully described in the specification, and pointed out in the accompanying drawings, in which Figure 1 is a side elevation of my device; Fig. 2, a plan view of the extension-carrier; Fig. 3, a longitudinal section of the carrier v and turn-table supporting said carrier; Fig. 4,
a detail section of the arms supporting the turn-table, from which the frame is raised to a vertical position.
Referring more particularly to the drawings, a running-gear, A B, supports a folding derrick, made in two sections, D D, hinged together at b, thelower section, D, being hinged to the running-gear at c. The derrick-sections, when raised, are held together by a lockingspring, (I, secured to the lower section,D, which has a return-bend, d, entering a hole or openinginto the upper section, D, so that when said upper piece is raised, vertically the bend d at once automatically enters the hole described and holds the sections firmly together. The derrick is held up, when raised, by the guyropes F, and the carrier-frame raised and lowered by the cord F and winding-drum E, as in my former patent. The foldable turn-table frame V, when raised, enters the opening between the arms T T of a supporting-frame attaehed to the cross-piece S, Fig. 4, and is prevented from falling forward by a pin passing through the openings t t and a corresponding opening in frame V, the pin being attached to a cord, h, secured to the frame V.
The turn-table N supports the straw-carrier by means of the light iron rods K K, secured to the table and the carrier.- This carrier is made in two sections, I I, and provided with an endless belt, J, which passes over the rollers 0 19 on the inner carrier-section, I, and rollers pp on the outer section, I. This outer piece, I, is made extensible with the section I, as follows Attached to the straw-delivery end of section I is a winding-frame, L, provided with a suitable pawl and ratchet, Q, and crank it, and at theforward end of said section I a pulley, l, is attached. A rope, M, is passed over and under the drum L, and has its free ends secured to the inner carrier-section at g g.
In order to extend the carrier-section I the drum L is turned by its crank it, so as to unwind that part of the rope which is passed over the drum, and is fastened to the carrier-section at g. This action winds up on the drum that part of the rope which passes under the drum.

When it is desired to shorten up the carrier it is only necessary to turn the drum in the opposite direction from thatjust described, when that part of the rope which is fastened at g and passes over the drum is Wound and the other portion unwound. The inner carriersection is supported by the supporting-pieces R R, thepieces R moving along the carriersection I, while the others, R, are rigidly attached to said carrier-section. The rollers :10 arejournaled in the lower ends of the pieces R R, and the carrier-section'l' moves back and forth on said rollers, the inside edges of pieces R acting as guides for carrier-section I. i
The several parts are operated and fold upon each other, as shown and described in my former patent.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim is- 1. In a straw-stacker,a hinged foldable derrick provided with an automaticlocking-spring, d, by means of which the derrick-sections are held together when raised, substantially as and for the purposes set forth.

In a straw-stacker, the combination, with a carrier made in two sections, a turn-table, and a foldable supporting-frame, of the fixed frame S, with the inclosing-arms T T, and cord and pin h, substantially as and for the purpose set section, Substantially as and for the purpose 1o forth. set forth.
