LOADING APPARATUS.
Specification of Letters Patent.

To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, NELS JoReENsEN, a subject of the King of Denmark, residing at Craig, in the county of Burt and State of Nebraska, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Loading Apparatus, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to loading apparatus in general, and it has particular reference to an improved apparatus whereby heavy and bulky material, such as manure and compost, may be loaded into wagons, the special object of the invention being to provide an apparatus of this class of simple and improved construction, whereby an entire wagon load may be deposited upon a platform that constitutes a part ,of the loading apparatus, means being provided whereby said platform may be elevated and tilted so as to discharge its contents into the body or box of a wagon which is driven to receiving position beneath the platform.
Further objects of the invention are to simplify and improve the general construction and operation of this class of apparatus.
With these and other ends in view, which will readily appear as the nature of the invention is better understood, the same consists in the improved construction and novel arrangement and combination of parts, which will be hereinafter described, and particularly pointed out in the claims.
In the accompanying drawings there has been illustrated a simple and preferred form of the improved apparatus, it being, however, understood that no limitation is necessarily made to the precise structural details therein described, but that changes, alterations, and modifications within the scope of the invention may be resorted to when desired. 4
In the drawings, Figure 1 is a perspective view of the improved loading apparatus, showing the same in load-receiving position. Fig. 2 is a side elevation'showing the apparatus with the load-carrying platform elevated,
dotted lines being employed to indicate the platform in a tilted or load-discharging position and also to indicate the several parts of the apparatus in load-receiving position. Fig. 3 is a top plan view showing the appara tus in load-receiving position.
Corresponding parts in the several figures are designated by like characters of reference.
The improved apparatus includes a baseframe B, the side members of which consist of skids or runners'l 1, which are suitably connected and spaced apart at intervals by means of cross-pieces 2 2. Said side mem-' bers are also connected by means of obliquelydisposed brace-rods 3 3.
- Pivotally connected with the side members 1 I of the base-frame, as by means of a transverse bolt'or connecting member 4, are the side members 5 5 of a lifting-frame L, which said side members are securely connected by means of obliquely-disposed brace-rods 6 6. The bolt or connecting member 4 affords a fulcrum for a lever-frame consisting of converging side members 6 6. The apex of the lever-frame is connected with the side members 5 5 of the lifting-frame L by means of rods or connecting members 7 7, the leverframe being disposed approximately at right angles to the lifting-frame, so that when the latter lies flat upon the ground, as shown in Fig. 1 of the drawings, the lever-frame will occupy an approximately perpendicular position.
The load-receiving platform P is composed of suitable flooring 8, secured upon a pair of cleats or flange members 9 9, whereby the floorin is slightly elevated above the ground when t e platform occupies the loadreceiv ing position indicated in Fig. 1. For the purpose of sustaining the floor of the platform in an approximately horizontal or level position while the load is being elevated the inner edge of the platform is connected by a link-bar with the base-frame, preferably through the medium of one of the cross-bars 2 of said base-frame, with which the said link-bar is hingedly connected, as by means of interengaging eyebolts 16. The upper or outer end of the link-bar is detachably connected with the platform by means of a flexible element, such as a wire rope or cable 17, which is guided over a pulley 18 near the upper or outer end of the link-bar, one end .of said flexible element being attached to the platform and the opposite end thereof being adapted to be detachably connected with the link-bar, as be means of a cleat 18.
Near the free end of the lever-frame there is supported a block or pulley 19, and a similar block or pulley 20 is connected with the cross-bar 2 near the end of the base-frame distant from the lever-frame. When the proper elevation has been attained, an empty wagon is driven beneath the platform,
and the free end of the flexible element 17 is then cast loose, thus causing the platform to be automatically tilted by the preponderance of weight upon the outer portion of said platform, the load being discharged directly into the wagon beneath. As soon as the load has is restored to its normal approximately horizontal position by simply .pulling the flexible member 17, the latter being made fast, as be-' fore, for the purpose of securing the platform. The strain upon the draft element 21 is now released, and the platform will then gravitate to its initial load-receiving position.
i As will be seen from the foregoing description and from the accompanying drawings this improved loading apparatus is extremely simple in construction, and it may therefore be manufactured at a moderate expense. .Its construction is such that heavy loads may be elevated and discharged "into wagons with great facility and with comparatively slight expenditure of power.

claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United States- 1. In a loading apparatus a'base-frameya platform, a lifting-frame connected pivotally with the platform intermediate the edges of the latter and connected pivotally with the base-frame near one end of the latter, alinkbar connectedpivotally with the base-frame, and means for connecting said link-bar detachably with the platform near one edge of the latter.
2. In a loading apparatus a base-frame, a platform, parallel members connecting the platform with the base-frame one of said parallel members being detachably connected with one edgeofthe platform, a lever-frame sup orted approximately at right angles to the ifting-frame and suitably connected with the latter, and means for applying draft to the free end of the lever-frame.

In a loading apparatus a base-frame, a fulcrum member extending through the side members of the base-frame, a lever-frame consisting of converging side members pivoted upon the fulcrum member, a lifting-frame having side members pivoted upon said fulcrum member, rods connecting the apex of the lever-frame with the side members of the lifting-frame and maintaining said frames approximately at right angles to each other, a platform supported pivotally at the free end of the lifting-frame, a link-bar connected hingedly with the base-frame and detachably with one edge, of the platform'said link-bar being approximately parallel to the liftingframe, and means for applying draft to the front end of the lever-frame.
