Description

PATBNTED FEB. 16, 1904.
0. P. SMITH. COMBINATION DERRICK AND DUMP.
APPLICATION FILED AUG. 22 1902.
N0 MODEL.
UNITED STATES Patented February 16, 1904.
CHARLES F. SMITH, OF SHOBONIER, ILLINOIS.
COMBINATION DERRICK AND DUMP.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent N 0. 752,187, dated February 16, 1904.
Application filed August 22, 1902.
To call whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, CHARLES F. SMITH, acitizen of the United States, residing at Shobonier, in the county of Fayette and State of Illinois, have invented a new and useful Derrick and Dump-Machine, of which the following is a specification.
My invention pertains to a combination of a derrick and dump operating so as to hoist a wagon-box from a wagon to any desirable height, then turning it at right angles to itsformer position, so as to bring the rear end in a desirable position for dumping and the front end in contact with an adjustable crossbeam which sustains the front end, allowing the rear end to drop, constituting the dump; and the object of my machine is by the use of a derrick to effect a dump by the power of a team or Windlass. I accomplish this end by the mechanism illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which Figure 1 is a side view of the entire machine, representing it in the act of hoisting the wagon-box from a wagon, (not illustrated Fig. 2, an angular end view showing it in the act of dumping; Fig. 3, a view of the rear end of wagon-box, showing the dump endgate with catch.
A represents a platform or driveway twelve feet long and seven feet wide, from which three posts B C D extend perpendicularly to any desired height, B and D being on same side of platform and eight feet apart, C being midway between and on the opposite side After driving on the platform A the wagonfierial No. 120,689 (No model.)
box is placed in the swing by placing the cross-beams L beneath it and fastening the rope M to the top cross-beam K. By applying the power (Windlass orteam) to J the wagon-box is hoisted to the desirable height. Then by pulling on the cord 0, fastened at any convenient place, the box is turned until the rear end comes against the post C, which stands by the opening in car or bin. Then by releasing the power at N the box drops, the front end being stopped by the adjustable beam E. The rear end is allowed to drop to the desirable slant for dumping. By pulling a cord attached to the catch P the end-gate is forced out at the bottom, the rod Q acting as a hinge. The grain is thus allowed to flow out. By releasing the power at N, first turning the box to its former position, it comes to its position on the wagon. The swing is detached by releasing the rope M-from K.
What I claim as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
1. In combination the foundation provided with three posts connected, and located rela tively thereto and to the centrally-suspended wagon-body to'be lifted in such a manner as to permit said body to be elevated and horizontally turned and a stop-bar to engage the end of said body when lowered, to dump the same, as set forth.
2. The combination with bar K suspended at a single point of seat-bars L and ropes M adapted to be overlaid upon the ends of bar Kand readily removed therefrom, as set forth.
3. The combination with the three posts arranged upon the foundation as described two thereof being connected by bar F of a single hoisting device adapted to centrally suspend the wagon-body from said bar, and a stop or dumping bar adjustable vertically upon two of said posts as set forth.
Intestimony whereof I have signed my name to this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses,
CHAS. F. SMITH. "Witnesses:
ERNEST V. MITCHELL, ELI M. ARNOLD.
