The Schedule referred to in 'these Letters Patent and` making parl: of the same.
To all ywilma it may concern.
Be it known that I, THOMAS VANDQLAH BAYLY, of Jones7 Station, in the county of Dearborn, and in v the State of Indiana, have invented certain new and in one'direction to convey the loaded fork from the' wagon to the place of deposit, and while moving in the opposite direction convey the fork back to the wagon, as 'willbe hereinafter more fully set forth.
In order to enable others skilled in the art -to which my invention appertaius to make and use the same, I will now proceed to describe its construction and operation, referring to the annexed drawing, which represents a perspective view of a barn with my elevator attached thereto.
A represents a barn of any suitable form and di= meusions;
B is one of the horizontal bars; and
C, one of the rafters at the top of .the barn.
I) is a door hinged at its lower end, and turned-down, as shown, where it is held by the facing E, on one side, being swung down ou a pivot and placed in a notch in the door.
At the outer end of this door D is a loop, G, in which a bar, II, is inserted, as shown. I
Pulleys are suspended in the harnas follows: g
c and b opposite each other, on the sides of the barn, at any suitable height;
d and e from the cross-beams B; and
f from the rafter C.
Another pulley, k, is attached to the floor of the barn insideof the door, and a pulley, la, at the outer end of the bar H.
I' represents the hay-fork, to which the hoistingropem and backing-rope n are attached.
A pulley, p, is also attached to the upper end of the fork I.
The hoisting-rope m passes over the pulley a, under the fork-pulley 1J, over the pulley d, and under h to.
the outside of the barn, where itis attached to ailing, s, or other device for attaching the horse.
The backing-rope u passes over the pulleys b, e, and
k, as shown, andis attached to the ring s. It will read- Y ily be seen that by this arrangement, when the horse moves iu one direction or from the barn the fork is conveyed in one direct-ion, and when the horse moves toward the barn the fork is moved in the opposite direction.
The tripping-rope t, attached to the fork, passes over the pulley f.
Having thus fully describedmy inifcntion,
What I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters' Patent, is-
1. The arrangement of the pulleys a, b, d, c, f, h, k, and p, hoisting-rope my, backing-rope n, and fork I, all substantially as and for the purposeshereiu set forth.
2. The door D, facing E, loop G, and bar H, all substantially as and for the purposes herein set forth.
In testimony thatI claim the foregoing I have hereunto set my hand this 17th day of February, 1871.
