To alt 'whom 'it may concern:
Be it known that I, CLAUDE d. ALLEN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Early, in the county of Sac and Statel of Iowa, have invented a new and useful rn provement in Root-Windows, of which the following is a specification.
The-object of my inventionis to rovide a boxing and Window trarne for win ow roofs constructed entirely of sheet metal, and of simple, durable and eilieient construction.
A further object of my invention is to provide means forl raising and lowering a window for Ventilating purposes. s
A Jfurther object of my invention is to 'provide means to prevent the window .from
`being raised from the outside.
A further obJect of my invention ,is t0 provide a Awindow traine with means for4 ze rotecting the glass in the frame against ail and the-like.
The above and other objects, advantages and capabilities of my invent-ion will become apparent from a detailed description of the accompanyingdrawings, in whichm llignre 1 is a view in perspective oi a device embodying my invention, Fig. Q is a cross-sectional View of the same, and Fig. 8 is a central longitudinal sectional view of the same. f
My device cnsists essentially of a sheet- Inetal boxing for windows, and a sheetrnetal window frame hingedly mounted on said boxing, and upright members secured to said frame and provided with crosspieces, to which is secured a Screening to irotect the device against hail and the like. I have used the reference numeral l0 to designate the boring` as a whole, which consists of two sides and two ends having outwardly extending anges 1i designed to be laid under the roofing; material to, insure a iight joint at 'the place where theboxing is installed. Each one et' these sides and ends are constructed et' a sheet metal strip having outwardly extending flanges, 'which are bent u )wardly and downwardly substantially 1n U-shaped form, -at substantially right angles to the outwardly extending liange, to form the sides and ends inoper, as
best shown in Figs. 2 and S. The two ends.
ot the boxing are lapped over the respective ends of the sides and are secured together by any suitable means, such as rivets, as best seen in Fig. 1."
Hingedly mounted on the boxing 10 is a window freine l2 whieh iseonstrueted en i sides endende of Said'traine'are constructed ot sheet metal strpsl which are' bent thence upwardly to a point spaced 'apart which are bent downwardly. at substantially right angles, thence upwardly substantially port 17. p
The upward extending portion entends upwardly to a point spaced apart 4troni the upper portion 16, and is then bentoutwardly and baokwardly `at substantially right to vform the lower casing 18.
ends being bent'upwardly to permit the npper portion of the partition to be inserted thereunder. The rib or downwardiy extending portion 17 oi the im rtition is spaced apart a short distance frein either end seas ported in the sides and partitions,,isbest shown m Figs. 2 and 3.
For protecting the glass initne v.frame dow f `ame with uprilits 1S see-.tired to said end thereof and provided at their upper eared in any suitable manner a screening 2l..
For raising and lowering the Wiedner-trein the floor forventiiating purposes, provide pivotally mounted to the window trane at lone end between the ribs 1T and" provided at its opposite end with van opening designed metal plate 2l is providedy with an opening ing lugs on its upper side. A pin 24 sedownwardly at substantially rightangiesf from'the inwinrdly extending portion 13, `j then inwardly at substantially right ongles constructed of two sheet metal strips 16,
'in U-shaped form to form a rib or supangles to the downward extending }fif.ntionv The upper portions 16 of the partition entend entirelyv across the traine, the upper easing o the against hail and the like, i provide thewwinf my device with a sheet nieta-l plate 21a' tiiely of sheet metal and. consiste` ofk two. sides, twoends anda eentralpartition. y The not to interfere with the raising and lower# 1 lng of the frame. The glass is secin'el sup' traine in any suitable manner near `e itligerl1.
