This invention aims to provide novel means whereby one window sash may be caused to act as a counterweight for another sash, thereby rendering unnecessary the use of supplemental sash weights. The invention aims to provide novel means whereby the flexible element which connects the sashes is mounted and so to construct the device that the parting strip between the sashes can fit up closely and directly against the stile.
It is within the province of the disclosure to improve generally and to enhance the utility of devices of that type to which the invention appertains.
With the above and other objects in view, which will appear as the description proceeds, the invention resides in the combination and arrangement of parts and in the details of construction hereinafter described and claimed, it being understood that changes in the precise embodiment of the invention herein disclosed, may be made within the scope of what is claimed, without departing from the spirit of the invention.
In the accompanying drawings Figure l shows in elevation, a device constructed in accordance with the invention;

Figure 4 is a plan of the blank out of which the pulley support or bracket is formed;
Figure 5 is a section on the line 5-5 of Figure 3.
The numeral 1 marks a window frame including a sill 2', a lintel 3, and stiles 4. Parting strips 5 are secured to the stiles 4 and are located between the guide strips 6 which are also secured to the stiles. Openings 7 are formed in the stiles 4 at points near to the lintel 3. The parting strips 5 extend upwardly across the openings 7. For each of the openings 7, a U-shaped metal bracket is provided. The bracket, designated by the numeral 8, is extended through the opening 7 A pulley 9 is supported at 29 Jfor rotation within the bracket 8.
The pulley 9 and the bracket 8 are downwardly and inwardly inclined. The bracket 8 is provided at its inner end with an upward ly extended wing 10 and with a downwardly extended wing l1. The upper wing 10 and the lower wing 11 and overlapped upon the inner surface of the stile 4 and are connected thereto by securing elements, such as wood I screws 12. The wings l0 and 11 are bifurcated, as `shown at 14, to span the parting strip 5 and the parting strip can rest directly on the stile 4, as shown at 15 in Figure 5.
affords many advantages, especially inas-y much as the parting strip 5 can be seated directly, as at 15, against the stile 4, and inasmuch as the flexible element 17 has slidable engagement with the metal flange or wing 11, which prevents the flexible element from being worn much where it passes out of the bracket 8 and downwardly upon opposite sides of the stile 4.
Generally considered, the device forming the subject matter of this application is a bracket for window sash suspension, fashioned from a single strip 30 of material, bent transversely at four places to form oppositely projecting wings 1() and 11 and an opensided, U-shaped body 31 connecting the wings, the wings being located in approximately the same plane, the body being disposed at an acute angle to the wing 10 and at, an obtuse angle to the wing 11, the bracket being convexed at 32 where the wing 11 joins W the body 31, to form an anti-fraying rope guide, a pulley 9 being journaled in the body 31 for rotation about an axis AB which is disposed acutely with respect to the wings 10 and 11, and approximately at right angles to the length of the body.
I claim A weightless window structure embodying a frame comprising a vertical stile having an opening which slants downwardly and inwardly, a U-shaped bracket litting closely in the opening and open at its sides, the lower member of the bracket being supported on the stile at the bottom of the opening, the lower member of the bracket having a con- 5 veXed guiding portion merging into a depending Wing secured to the inner surface of the stile, a pulley journaled in the bracket, Sashes slidable in the frame, and a flexible element connected at its ends to the sashes and looped about the pulley, the'flexible element being in slidable contact with the conveXed, guid-` ing portion of the bracket, the angle of the opening, of the bracket, and of the pulley, being approximately forty-five degrees with respect to the vertical.
