Description

April 1'0, 1928. 1,665,432
G. l. BARCLAY WINDOW Filed Feb. '7. 192'? I inwardly Patented pr. it), i928.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
GUSTAF IVAR BARCLAY, 0F DETROIT, MICHIGAN, ASSIGNOR TO DETROIT STEEL PROD- UCTS COMPANY, OF DETROIT, MICHIGAN, A CORPORATION OF MICHIGAN.
WINDOW.
Application led February 7, 1927. Serial No. 166,517.
The invention relates to windows and refers more particularly to that type having a sash and ventilator. One of the objects of the invention is to provide a mountingupon the sash for the Ventilator which automatically operates to move the ventilator toward the sash upon closing of the ventilator. Another object is to provide a 'simple pin less type of mounting permitting of readily detaching the ventilator from the sash. With these as well as other objects in view, the invention resides in the novel features of construction and combinations and arrangements of parts as more fully hereinafter set forth.
In the drawings z*- Figure 1 is a plan View of a window embodying my invention;
Figures 2 and 3 are cross sections on the lines 2-2 and 3 3 respectively of Figure l.
The window herewith shown is a basement window and has the metallic sash 1 and the ventilator 2 with metallic bars, the ventilator being mounted upon the sash to swing and upwardly. The pivotal mounting upon the sash for the ventilator includes the mounting members 3 which are pivotally secured to the web 4 of the head bar of the sash by means of the pivots 5 which allow the mounting members to swing through horizontal paths. Each mounting member has at its inner end the hook 6 which extends downwardly and inwardly throughthe inclined aperture 7 in the ventilator head bar and also through the aperture 8 formed in the inner transverse iange 9 of the ventilator head bar, the metal at the outer edge of the aperture forming a pintle 10. Each hook extends upwardly and terminates at a distance from the inner transverse flange l1 of the sash head bar sufficient to permit readily detaching the ventilator from the sash. To move the head bar of the ventilator outwardly toward and into engagement with the head bar of the sash upon the closing of the ventilator, each pintle is inclined upwardly and inwardly and has its end positioned to engage the inner surface of the engaged hook to cam the ventilator head bar toward the sash head bar upon closing of the ventilator. The apertures in the inner transverse flange ofthe ventilator head bar are formed by punching and the pintles are inclined by twisting. l
From the above description it will be seen that I have provided a mounting upon the sash for the ventilator which is very simple in construction and may be cheaply manufactured. It will also be seen that this mounting permits of readily detaching the ventilator from the sash, is pinless and provides for a cam action to move the ventilator toward the sash upon closing of the ventilator. It will be further seen that the mounting provides for adjustment of the ventilator relative to the sash so that the two may properly engage.
What I claim as my invention is:
l'. In a window, the combination with a sash having a head bar formed with an elongated slot adjacent the inner edge thereof, of a swinging ventilator having a head bar with an inner transverse flange formed with an elongated slot in alignment with the slot aforesaid, a member pivotally mounted upon the head bar of the sash having a hook at the end thereof extending through the said slots, the upper edge of the slot in said ventilator head bar being turned inwardly forming a pintle for said hook operable to automatically move said ventilator head bar toward said sash head bar upon closing of said ventilator.
2. In a window7 the combination with a sash and swinging ventilator7 of a pivotal mounting upon said sash for said ventilator, including a member pivotally mountedupon said sash to swing in a direction transverse to that of said ventilator, and means upon said ventilator having a cam engagement with said member to move said ventilator relative to said sash upon swinging of the latter.
In testimony whereof I aiiix my signature.
GUSTAF IVAR BARCLAY.
