IMPROVEMENT IN BODY-LININGS FOR LADIES DRESSES.

This invention relates to a new and iinproved application of patterns for the cutting of ladies7 dresses; and it consists in having the pattern stamped or .printed upon the lining ol*A the dress, so that the lining may be basted to the dress and the latter cut in accordance] with the pattern.
In practice it is designed to have patterns of Various sizes printed or stamped upon muslin or other fabric designed for dress-linings, s0 that merchants may keep them on sale, and a purchaser, by giving the proper dimensions, obtain a dress-lining with the proper-sized pattern upon it.
There are only three principle measurements required to be given in order to obtain a prop er-sized pattern for a ladys dress. One is the dimensions around the chest, another the dimensions around the waist, and the other the height or length. The chest-measurement is designated by the line A A in the drawing, the waist by the line B B, and the length by the line C C. These three measurements being obtained, the'drafting ofthe outline of the pattern andthe obtaining of the variou-s points is a matter ot' no difliculty.
The patterns are stamped, printed, or otherwise marked upon the dress-lining D, (bounded by a red outline in drawing) so that a person in purchasing a pattern obtains the dress-lin` ing with it. The lining is basted to the fabric ot' which the dress is to be made, andthe dress cut in accordance with the pattern. Thus by this simple means any person may purchase with a dress-lining a proper dress-pattern by simply giving the measurements previously stated.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desircto secure by Letters Patent- As a new article ol' manufacture, a dress lining having 'the body-pattern stamped or marked upon it, as herein described, for the purpose specified.
