WITNESSES THE NORRIS PETERS 60., PHO'IYPLITHOQ WASHINGI'ON. D. c,
GEORGE M. WEITZEL, OF DUQUESNE, PENNSYLVANIA.
GAME APPARATUS.
Specification of Letters Patent. Application filed June 10, 1914.
Patented Sept. 29, 1914. Serial No. 844,312.
To all whom may concern: 1
Be it known that I, GEORGE M. WEITZEL, a citizen of the United States of America, residing at Duquesne, in the county of Allegheny and State of Pennsylvania, have in vented certain new and useful Improvements in Game Apparatus, of which the following is a specification, reference being had therein to the accompanying drawing. 5
This invention relates to a ratus, and has for its object to provide an apparatus of such class, in a manner as herein after set forth, for affording considerable amusement when playing a game therewith. V,
Further objects of the invention are to provide a game apparatus, which is simple in its construction and arrangement, strong,
durable, readily set up and comparatively inexpensive. i
With the foregoing and other objects in View, the invention consists of the novel construction, combination and arrangement of parts as hereinafter more specifically de scribed and illustrated in the accompanying drawings, wherein is shown an embodiment of the invention, but it is to be understood that changes, variations and modifications can be resorted to which come within the scope of the claims hereunto appended.
In the drawings wherein like reference characters denote corresponding parts throughout the several views:Figure 1 is a top plan view of a game apparatus in accordance with this invention, Fig. 2 is a side elevation, Fig. 3 is a vertical section, partly broken away, Fig. 4c is a rean gplevation, and Fig. 5 is a perspective view,"'of one of the elements of the apparatus.
Referring to the drawings in detail, 1 denotes a base board formed with a series of pockets 2, arranged in any suitable manner and each being suitably designated; The designations for the pockets are such as to indicate value and the value indications of the pockets are different. The base 1 has a pair of flanges 3, 4, which extend longitudinally as well as vertically and also a flange 5, which extends transversely and vertically. The flange 5 is arranged at the forward end of the base 1 and at the rear end thereof a cross bar 6 is provided. The flanges 3, 4 and 5 and cross bar 6 in connection with the base 1 provides a receptacle, while the upper face of the base 1 con-- game appastitutes what may be termed a playing surface.
Connected tothe cross bar 6 is a vertis cally disposed support 7, having intermediate its ends an opening 8. Connected to the rear of the support 7, is a rearwardly extending platform 9 provided with an opening 10. The front end of the platform 9 1s flanged as at 11, and is fixedly secured to the support 7 by a holdfast device 12. The
rear end of the platformlO is bent clownthe intermediate portion thereof offset as at 19 to provide a circular pocket 20, for the reception of a series of spherical bodies 21, capable of being discharged from the lower end of the pocket 20.
Slidably mounted upon the platform 9, and movable through the opening 8, is a carrier head 22, provided with an opening and further having a forwardly proj ecting handle 24. The function of the head 22 is to receive a spherical body 21 in the opening 23 and conduct it to the opening 10 where the spherical body 21 can drop down into the chute 14, where it will be conducted to the playing surface formed by the upper face of the base 1. The body 21 will then move over said playing surface, and in some instances enter a pocket 2.
Nine spherical bodies or balls 21 are provided and each player operates the carrier head 22 until all of the spherical bodies21 roll upon the base 1. The spherical bodies or balls which seat in the pockets 2 are the only ones that are counted and the first player obtaining twenty-five points wins the game, twenty-five balls in the pockets 2 wins the game. In lieu of having twenty-five points, the number can be increased to fifty, one hundred or one hundred and fifty. Any player filling all the pockets with his first set of nine spherical bodies or balls will win the game.
or the first player who seats What I claim is 1. A game apparatus comprising a base provided with pockets, a support, means arranged at the rear of said support for holding a series of gravity movable spherical bodies, a chute extending over said base, and means shiftable through said support and capable of successively carrying said bodies to deposit them in the chute whereby they will be conducted to said base.
2. A game apparatus comprising a base provided with pockets, a support, means arranged at the rear of said support for holding a series of gravity movable spherical bodies, a chute extending over said base, means shiftable through said support and capable of successively carrying said bodies to deposit them in the chute whereby they will. be conducted to said base, and a defiector carried by said base in proximity to the lower end of said chute.
3. A game apparatus comprising a base provided with pockets, a support, means arranged at the rear of said support for holding a series of gravity movable sphericalbodies, a chute extending over said base, means shiftable through said support and capable of successively carrying said bodies to deposit them in the chute whereby they will be conducted to said base, and means for connecting said chute to said support, said means constituting a platform for said earner.
4:. A game apparatus comprising a base provided with pockets, a support, means arranged at the rear of said support for holding a series of gravity movable spherical bodies, a chute extending over said base, means shiftable through said support and capable of successively carrying said bodies to deposit them in the chute whereby they will be conducted to said base, a deflector carried by said base in proximity to the lower end of said chute, and means for connecting said chute to said support, said means constituting a platform for said carrier.
In testimony whereof I ailix my signature in the presence of two witnesses.
GEORGE M. VVEITZEL.
