My, invention relates to improvements in hasp locks, the principal object being to provide a lock of that character which cannot be picked or. tampered with to effectan opening, and which looks itself automati-- cally. i x a To the accomplishment of the foregoing and such other objects as may hereinafter .appear, my; invention consists in the construction, combination and arrangement. of
parts hereinafter described and then sought to be defined in the appended claims, reference being had to the accompanying drawings forming a part hereof and which illustrate a preferred embodiment ofmy invention, it being understood howeverthat various changes may be made inpractice within the scope of the claims without digressing from my inventive idea.

Referring now to the drawings the nu-n meral 1 designates the shank or hasp which is secured to staple 2 and has a body portion 3 having the-slotted or apertured lug or ear 4 extending therefromand adapted to be hooked or secured on the lug or hooko,
. as indicated in Fig. 1, so that the device may a form of a rectangularchamber or compartbe used asa latch. The lug or hook 5 is the means, with. which the; lock itself engages.
The body portion ,3 of the hasp isin the ment 6, having the cover 7, which is provided with the aperture 8 and aslot 9to receive the barrel 0! key cylinder 10, the lower end of which is reduced and rotatably 3 mounted in the aperture 11. This body por tion is provided near its front end with the elongated slot or opening 12, which is adapted to receive the locking lug or hook 5. The guiding and guarding flange or abutment 13 is provided adjacent the aperture 12 and extends from the lower side of the body to a position in line with the middle part of saidopening or aperture 12. initial portion of said side or edge being straight as at 32, to provide the bearing or abutment portion. The upper edge of said front. portion is below the top edge of the main part of thebody portion to provide room for the spring 33, which is secured to said portion and end of which bears'on the toe or extension 21. The rear side of said body member or portion 20 is provided in its main portion with the ex tended groove or recess 34, in which is adapted to be positioned the guiding rib or lug 17 so as to hold the bolt in its proper position'while moving from its locked to its unlocked position. The forward portion is reduced as at 35, to provide room to receive the toe or extension 21, part'of which is reduced as at 36 so that the combined'thickness of the reduced portion of the, body member and toe member ofthe bolt are substantially equal to the thickness of the body member of the bolt. By reducing the portion of the toe or extension the shoulder'or abutment is provided which is positioned inengagement with the front edge 32 of the body portion. The underside of the toe or extension is' cut away to provide the recessed portion 37, the forward extremity of the toe- 38 being innline with the bottom straight edge 29 of the body member. The forward portion of the bottom side of saidtoe or extension 21 is beveled as at 39, and the front thereof is inclined, as at 40 to receive theiend of the spring 33 when said toe or extension is moved on its pivot by the engagement of the beveled surface 41 of the locking lug or bolt. The straight bottom edge 29 normally rests on and is guided by the pin, lug or extension 14 and the flange or abutment 13. said body portion having means adapted to be engaged by a key and means for normally holding said bolt in its locked position, tumblers pivotally mounted on said bolt having portions normally in engagement with a stop or abutment, said tumblers being adapted to be actuated by a key to be withdrawn from engagement with said abutment whereby the bolt may be with drawn from its position across said opentoe or extension being pivoted to said body portion and adapted tobe moved relative thereto to permit the entrance of said looking lug or hook, resilient means for normally holding said toe or extension in engagement with said locking lug or hook, the body portion of said boltbeing provided with-a bearing fiange,tumblers pivotally mounted on said bolt, a stop or abutment with which said tumblers are adapted to engage, resilient means connected to said tumblers and resting on said bearing flange for normally holding said tumblers in engagement with said stop or abut1nent,said tumblers being adapted to be moved from engagement with said stop or abutment by means of a key,and said bolt being adapted to be withdrawn from said opening by means of a key after the tumblers are withdrawn from engagement with said stop or abutment. t
