siding at Tecumseh, in the county of-Johnson and State of Neb1'aska,:have invented certain new and useful"Improvements in Clamps, of which thefollowing is a specification, reference beinghad to the accompanying drawings.

This inventlon relates to clamps, and particularly to clamps which are adapted foruse in connection with wire stretchers to hold the wires of a fence while they are being stretched. 1

An object of this. invention is the provision of a clamp of this character which comprises a pair of bars having registering openings formed therein to receive the bolts upon which the clamping nuts are mounted, means being provided whereby one of the bars may be removed or applied to the bolts without disengaging the bolts from" the A. further object of this invention is the provision of a clamp of this character which comprises a Ipair of bars, one of the bars' having a p urality of circular openings thereinand be other bar having a plurality of elongated openlngs thereinwhich register with the circular openings in the first bar, the registering, openings being adapted to receive bolts upon which the clamping nuts are mounted, each of the bolts having one end angularly disposed so that the same may be turned to allow the bar having the elongated openings to be passed over the angularly disposed portions of the bolts without disengaging the bolts from the bar having the circular openings therein.

With these and other. objects in view, my invention consists in the novel construction, combination, and arrangement of parts to behereinafter more fully described, claimed,

- at its upper end, one end of each groove being adapted to receive the angular extension of one of the bolts after the bar 2 has been engaged against the bar 1 to prevent accidental separation of the bars.-

- In the practical use of my improved clamp, when it is desired to connect the same to the wires of a fence, the bar 2 is disengaged from the bar 1 and the bar 1 is placed so that the wires engage the inner face of the bar, whereupon the bolts are disposed so that the extensions 9 thereof extend longitudinally of the bar and the bar 2 is engaged against the wires with the bolts projecting through the, slots 4:." Having thus fully described my inven tion what I desire to claim and secure by Letters Patent, is

A clamp of the character described C0111- .prising a pair of bars, one of said {bars having a circular opening therein, the other of said bars having an elongated opening therein for registrationwith the opening in the first mentioned bar, a bolt having a laterally disposed head arranged through said registering openings, said second mentioned bar having a transversely disposed groove formed in its outer face and crossing said elongated opening at one end thereof, said groove being adapted to receive the head of the bolt when the bars are connected-together, so that the head is maintained out ofalinement with the elongated opening.
