WITHROW GLOBE, OF WAVELAND, INDIANA, ASSIGNOR OF ONE-HALF TO FRANK C. MILLIGAN, 01E WAVELAND, INDIANA.
CLAIVIPING DEVICE.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, lVI'rHRow CLoRE, a citizen of the United States, residing at VVaveland, in the county of Montgomery and State of Indiana, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Clamping Devices; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention relates to devices for engaging with and clamping the end portions of the wires of a wire fence so that the fence-wires may be stretched simultaneously; and it consists in the novel construction and combination of the parts hereinafter fully described and claimed.
In the drawings, Figure 1 is a side View of the clamping device. Fig. 2 is a plan view of the same, drawn to a larger scale.
A and B are two similar bars, preferably I cylindrical in form, and provided at their ends with eccentric pivots a and 6 respectively.
C are links which connect the pivots together at the ends of the bars. Each link consists preferably of two eye-bolts provided with right and left hand screwthreads, and a turnbuckle 0 which connects the screwthreaded stems of the said eyebolts.
D are eyes which project from the bars near their top and bottom ends and at their Specification of Letters Patent.

middle portions. E are flexible connections, such as wires or chains, which are secured to the said eyes and to a coupling-ring 6 common to them all. The fence-wires F are inserted between the two bars, and the parts are so arranged that the coupling-ring is on the opposite side of the axes of the bars from the links C.
The coupling-ring is connected to any approved form of fence-wire tightener, and the end portions of the fence-wires are gripped tightly between the bars when the coupling-ring is pulled in the direction of the .arrow in Fig. 2. The turnbuckles are provided in order to adjust the grip of the bars by varying the lengths of the links.
What I claim is:
In a gripping device, the combination, with two cylinders for engaging with the fence-wires, of eccentric pins provided with heads and projecting from the ends of the cylinders, bolts provided with eyes which slip over the said heads and engage with the said pins, turnbuckles connecting the said bolts together in pairs, fastening eyes projecting from the peripheries of the cylinders, and means for connecting the said fastening eyes with a fence-wire stretcher.
In testimony whereof I have affixed my signature in the presence of two witnesses.
WVITHROW CLORE.
Witnesses GEORGE W. DEER, CHAS. JONES.
