Specification of Letters Patent.

Be it known that I, BRUNO GRAHAM, a citizen oi' the United States, residing in the county of Tarrant and State ol' Texas, have invented new and useful Improvements in VVirc-Stretchers, ol whichthe following is a specification.
This invention relates, generally, to wire stretchers, and more particularly to one adapted for stretching the strand wires either of a barb wire or of a woven wire fence.
The object el" the invention is to provide an apparatus of this character which shall be simple in construction, eilicient and durable in use, and which, with the output oi the minimum oiI energy, shall secure the 1naXi mum of eiliciency.
l/Vith the above and other objects in view, as will appear as the nature of the invention is better understood, the same consists in the novel construction, combination and arrangement oi parts of a wire stretcher, as will be hereinafter i'ully described and claimed.
In the accompanying drawings forming a part of this specification, and in which like characters oi1 reference indicate corresponding parts, lligure l is a detail view of an equalizing device to be used in connection with a mechanism for stretching 'the strands of a barb wire fence. Fig. 2 is a perspective view showing the arrangement ot the equaliZing bars.
The invention comprises two bars 29 and 30, between which are secured for rotation a plurality ol" grooved sheaves 3l. The upper and lower ends of the bars 30 have secured to them castings 32 and 33 which have projecting portions that extend between the bars and serve to hold them properly spaced to avoid any binding of the sheaves. The castings are each provided on one side with oriiiced extensions 34, and these are engaged by a wire rope or chain S5 that in turn is engaged by the hook of a chain or cable, not shown.
The forward portion of the castings 32 and 33 are provided with oriiiced extensions 36 in which are secured the terminals of an evening cable 37 which is oi sullicient length to permit the formation oi a plurality of bights 3S in which are mounted shel ves 39 each carrying a yoke llt). The outer end of each yoke is provided with a clamping member consisting of a dog el. pivoted as at 42 to the yoke and. provided with serrated jaw i3 that co-acts with a similar jaw on the yoke and between which the strand wires vW oi the barb wire fence are secured, it boing seen from the construction that the greater the draft or pull upon the equalizer the more iirmly the clamps engage with the strand wires and thus prevent slipping. It will be obvious that it the strand wires are of an unequal length that the evening cable will compensate for this by allowing the sheaves 89 t0 assume such position as to insure an even stress upon the strands. The operation of the ratchet member in actuating the equalizer' is the same as that when used in tightening the strands of a woven fonce.
It will be seen from the foregoing dcscription that while the improvements herein defined are simple in character, they will cooperate mutually in the production of a thoroughly oilicient and highly efficacious apparatus.
What I claim is# strand equalizer ior wire fences comprising two spaced apart bars carrying upper and lower castings which hold said bars in their spaced relation, said castings being provided with iront and rear outstanding ears, a draft cable connected to the roar cars, a plurality of sheaves mounted between the spaced bars, an evencr cable connected to the front ears ol' said castings and passing over said sheaves, a plurality of yokes carrying wire clamps, and sheaves carried by said yokes and engaging said evener cable.
