Specificatipn of Letters Patent. Application filed February 10, 1914.
Patented Sept. 1, 1914.
Serial No. 817,836.
provements in holders for playing cards,
and has for its object to so construct a device of this character that a number of cards dealt to a player can be conveniently held in. spread positions so that the denominations of the cards can be ascertained at aglance.
A further object of the invention is to provide a holder of this type so constructed that the cards can be easily and quickly removed from the holder during the playing of the game.
With these and other objects in View, this invention resides in the. novel features of construction, formation, combination and arrangement of parts to be hereinafter more fully described, claimed and illustrated in the accompanying drawing, in which Figure 1 is a rear elevation of the device. Fig. 2 is a front view. Fig. 3 is a sectional view on line 33 of Fi 1. Fig. 4 is a similar View on line 4-4 of Fig. 1.
The holder consists of a handle 1 which supports the frame 2, said frame consisting of a single length of wire so bent as to provide horizontal bars 3, the ends t of which being fixed in the handle 1. The outer ends of the bars 3 terminate in upwardly inclined arms 5 whichv are connected by the upwardly curved bar 6. The holder further consists of an arcuate plate 7, the same being formed from sheet metal and has its end edges provided with sleeves 8 which engage the arms 5, thus firmly connecting the plate to the frame 1. The lower edge of the plate 7 is provided with an inwardly directed continuous flange 9 which limits the movement of the playing cards in a downward direction when the same are engaged between the bar 6 and inner surface of the plate 7.
From the foregoing description itwill be seen that when a player is dealt a hand, the cards can be readily inserted between the bar 6 and plate 7 and quickly spread in a fan like position so that the denominations of the cards can be readily ascertained when the device is grasped by the handle 1.
The plate 7 is slightly curved throughout its length so that When the cards are engaged in the holder the same, will be held curved transversely and in a manner usually employed when holding the cards in the hand.
What is claimed is 1. A holder for playing cards comprising a wire frame, said frame including a curved bar, an arcuate plate supported by the frame and coacting with the bar to hold. cards therebetween, and means carried by the plate to limit the downward movement of the cards.
2. A holder for playing cards comprising a handle, a wire frame formed from a single length of Wire and being bent to provide horizontal bars, the inner ends of said bars being connected to the handle, the outer ends of said bars terminating in upwardly inclined arms, a curved bar connecting said arms, an arcuate sheet metal plate having its end edges provided with sleeves for engaging the inclined arms, the lower,
edge of said plate being provided with an inwardly directed continuous flange for engagement by the lower end edges of the cards when the same are engaged between the curved bar and plate.
In testimony whereof, I aflix my signature, in presence of two witnesses.
WILLIAM GESSNER. Witnesses:
