Ell/[IL E. STOSSER, OF NEW YORK, N. Y.
COMBINED DUSTPAN AND HOLDER FOR BROOMS, ETC.
Application filed. July 17, 1925. Serial No. 44,334.
This invention relates to a combined dustpan and holder for brooms and the like and has for an object to provide an improved construction over the construction shown in my Patent No. 1, 102547, issued January 3, 1922.
Another object of the invention is to provide a holder which is extremely simple in construction and may be manuhictured cheaply.
A further object of the invention is to provide adevice which may be used as a dustpan or holder for diilerent articles, the arrangement being extremely simple whereby the device may be readily grasped and manipulated for a desired purpose or may be readily hung up "for receiving and supporting brooms, brushes and the like.
in the accompanying drawing- Figure 1 is a sectional view 'hrough F ure 2, approximately on line 1-1, the same being on an enlarged scale the device being shown hanging against a wall or other support.
Figure 2 is a plan view of the device embodying the invention, several articles being shown in dotted lines in connection therewith.
Figure 3 is an inverted perspective view on a reduced scale 01 the device shown in Figure 2.
Referring tothe accompanying drawing by numerals, 1 indicates a wall or other support adapted to be supplied with a nail, pin or other device 2 which is preferably provided with an enlarged end or head. The combined pan and holder 3 is formed with an opening t, which if desired, may be provided with a reduced slot 5 so that when the device is being hung up the head of the support 2 may readily pass through the opening 1 and then the device moved clownwardly so as to engage the support 2 at the. end of slot 5. This will prevent accidental removal.
In constructing the pan or holder 3, the same is formed very simple and preferably 1S a stampingpressed from sheet metal so as to be provided with a bottom 6, side walls 7 and 8 and an end wall 9. The side walls 7 and 8 are rounded and tapered as shown in Figure 1 so as to provide a desired amount of side wall without presenting an undesirable amount of metal. In forming the end wall 9, the same is provided with a notch 10 of a width ampld to receive the handle 11 of the broom 12. Tiiis will permit a person to readily support a broom on the pan whereby it acts as a broom holder or support. In addition, other articles may be supported by the device through the action of the eye members 18 and 1a, which eye members are provided with threaded extensions projecting through the wall 9 and receiving'the respective nuts 15 and 16. As indicated in Figure 2, a dust brush 1? may be mounted on one of the eye members in any suitable manner, as for instance, by the hook 18 Likewise another form of brush or other article 19 may be mounted on the eye let through the usual hook or other connection 20.
When the device is to be used as a dustpan, the brushes 17 and 19 and the broom 12 are all removed so that the thumb of the hand may be passed through the aperture 10 and some or all of the lingers fitted into the depression 21 whereby the portion of the device will act as a handle. it broom and a pair of brushes have been shown and described as being supported by the device but it will be evident that other articles may be supported instead of these members it so desired.
What I claim is:
A dustpan, comprising a bottom, an end and sides all formed from a single piece of sheet metal, said. bottom being formed at one end with an aperture for receiving supporting member and at the opposite end with a pressed portion forming a recess, said pressed portion being positioned so that one of the walls thereof co-acting with the lower part of said end presents a finger grip, said end being formed with a centrally positioned notch co-acting with said finger grip whereby a thumb of a person may be passed through the notch in said end while the fingers are in said recess and thereby the pan may be readily grasped and held in any EMIL E. STOSSER.
