Patented Sept. 1, 1914.
Application filed August 13, 1913. Serial No. 784,572.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I JOSEPH CHARLES AUGUsrE LABRisoHn, a subject of the King of Great Britain, andresident at Edmonton,
in the Province of Alberta,in the Dominion of Canada, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Cigar Cutting Tools; and I do herebydeclare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the same.
The invention is a cigar cutting tool and has for its object simple and compact pocket tool with which the casing and any other tools. such as a pocket comb, lmife or the like may be readily combined.
The invention consists essentially of a pair of side plates distanced and coupled, between which is longitudinally secured a backbone spring, one end of which is formed into a loop sharpened at itsloweredge and adapted to ooact with alined holes in said side plates. The side plates form a casing into which, if desired, a comb, knife, or the like may be hinged, would be extended so that the opposite end from the loop forms the backbone spring for the additional tool.
The invention is shown on an enlarged scale in the accompanying drawings in which Figure 1 is a longitudinal section through Fig.2 an underside edge view. i j Referring to the drawings 1 and'2 are the side plates forming the casing and distanced apart and coupled at one end by the block 3, rivets being passed through said block and plates. The other ends of sand plates are distancedby the backbone spring and being formednwiththe squaredend 81 adapted to contact the end 9 of the spring 1 for snap action asin the case of an ordinary penknife, in fact I may usea knife blade in place of the comb if desired. The other end of the backbone spring 4. beyond the Copies of this patent may be obtained for to provide a neat,
hooks 14, which,
in which case the spring pose, takes up very of a pair of side plates atone end of theflcasing and rivets 5 is thinned down to secure greater springiness and just beyond the outer end of the comb is curled into the loop 10 the lower edge of which is sharpened to form the knife 11 adapted to work in combination with alined co-acting through the plates 1 and 2 to form a cigar cutter, which is operated by pressing the upper end of said loop into the finger depression 13 at the upper edge of the casing. Other tools may also be combined in the casingif desired, and in the drawings the lower edge of the casing is formed with the with the recesses 15, form a crown stopper remover. Also said lower edge contains a cork puller 16 and a button hook 17 hinged between its side plates and working in conjunction with a backbone spring 18in the manner of a penknife. The point of the cork puller preferably comes between the hooks 14 for protection in the folded position and the inner end of the shank of the button hook may be provided with a prong 19 on the inner side forming a nail cleaner. I may make the buttonhook thinner and-hinge a knife blade alongside thereof between the plates if found desirable. The arrangement of the cigar cutter is important as it is very effective for the purlittle space and is very simply formed by spring 4.
What I claim as my invention is 1' In a cigar cutting tool, a casing'formed pled and having alined coacting lateral holes to receive a cigar tip, a backbone spring secured longitudinally within said casing, the outer end of said spring being formed into aloop extending partly out of the casing at its upper end and sharpened at its lower endto a knife'edge adapted to form a cigar cutter in conjunction July, 1913.
