'COMBINATION- GARMENT.
Specification of Letters Patent.
. Patented Sept. 1, 1914.
Application filed March 10,.191'4. Serial No. 823,711.
State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in CombinatiomGarments; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
My invention relates to certain new and useful improvements in combination gar ments, and is particularly, although not ex clusively intended for underwear, inasmuch as it is likewise applicableto use for other purposes, as, for instance, in the manufacture of pajamas, track suits, gymnasium wear, or the like.
In the accompanying drawing, Figure 1 represents a front view of a combination garment embodying my invention; Fig. 2 represents a rear View thereof.
Similar letters of reference indicate similar parts in both views. For purposes of illustration, I have shown the garment as sleeveless, although it will be understood-that this is not of the essence of the invention, inasmuch as thegarment may be provided with the usual sleeves.
The rear of the garment, as shown in Fig. 2, isfmade of thenecessary fullness, represented,'forinstance, by the gores a extending from the waistline b, and has a closed seat and a closed crotch c,-.so that, seen from the rear, it is appropriate to be worn even in public view. The legs 03 are intended to be, as indicated, ofa length terminating The front of the garment is closed'by fastenings such as the buttons and button-holes e, which ex-- tend across one of the shoulders f and thence downward in a general longitudinal direc tion across the chest and abdomen and. along the front or upper portion of the leg, that is, forward of the crotch portionof the leg so as to be away from the crotch seam of the garment and within easy access of the wearer, thereby permitting him to readily fasten and unfasten the garment, without putting himself in an unnatural position.
In" Fig. 1, I have shown the garment as part ally broken away. along the irregular line 7?. so as to more clearlv illustrate the location of the edge portion 71, to which the buttons are attachedit being understood that the overlying edge m is provided with the corresponding button-holes.
One of the advantages oflthegarment is that inasmuch as it opens down the shoulder,
into it more it permits'the wearer-to slip readily 'Whe'rtuufastened than if fastened down theinedian'line of the body. Furthermore, it permits the front panel or face 8 of the shirt to be carried over the chest, without having an opening in the front of the neck; and isinore completely closed in th neighborhood of the crotch for the reason that the line of fastenings extends across the garment 'well' above the location of the crotch portion. The construction also permits the garment to-be closed in the back as well as in the crotch, with the advantages incident thereto.
Having thus'described my invention what I claim is: v
1. A combination garment provided with a front opening having av row of releasable fastenings, said opening extending laterally from the neck opening toa point adjacent to the armhole on one side and then diagonally across the front of the body and along the leg on the other side, forwardof I the crotch portion of that leg; substantially.
as described.
2. A combination garment provided with a front opening having a row of releasable fastenings. said opening extending laterally from the neck opening to a point adjacent to the arm-hole on one side and then in a substantially straight line diagonally across V the body and along the leg onthe other side forward of the crotch portion'of that leg,
said garment having a closed seat and closed Henry E. BACHMAJ, Faro B. OCONNELL.
